Is there a way to stop winamp from read the cd-drives at start-up? I looked at the options but couldn't find anything except one option to use winamp for cd-playback, but deactivating that didn't help.

You could disable auto play.

Start/Control Panel/Folder Options/

Click "File Types" tab and set it there.

I disabled autoplay for any type of media long ago, now Windows won't make me loose time by browsing through all the contents of the disk whenever I insert one ...
