Default Laptop Battery Lock Jammed

I'm leaving for Germany soon, and taking my laptop (HP dv4000 series). I purchased a new battery for it, only to find to my dismay that the battery lock that secures the original battery firmly refuses to budge past the halfway mark, making it impossible for me to remove the battery.

Does anyone have any advice?

The battery latches on the 4000 series are some tough SOB's. Just use some more force.

(Incase you're wondering, I am typing on a dv4000 notebook at the moment).

Ah, good to know. Should you just apply force, or should you apply force while pushing down, or while pushing it towards the battery, or away from the battery?

Just apply a fair amount of force.

The difficult battery latch is an intentional design feature. It's difficult to unlatch because they don't want you accidentally ejecting the battery while you're moving the laptop around on your lap or desk.

Ah, Fantastisch. It works, and now I've a large battery! And, of course, Fallout 1 and 2, which will run with no CD...
