hey guys time for that yearly upgrade! hey all its time for my yearly upgrade and since you guys helped me out last time i figured i could ask again! so my budget is around 500 dollars, and i am only shopping at newegg. ive built some sick computers on newegg wishlist that are around there. but i know some of you guys are the bomb at doing it so i want to ask for your assistance! thank you very much guys, i am deciding by friday what to get! keep in mind i want the shipping to be equal total around 500, its alright if it goes past it a little |
I would upgrade to a dual core and stick another gig of ram in there. Coupled with a 8600gt you would be laughing for another year. Newegg.com - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Manchester 2.2GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - Retail Newegg.com - Buy Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more! Newegg.com - PNY VCG8600GXPB GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card - Retail That would be if your mobo was a socket 939, however if its AM2 just pick the equivelant chip. 4200 is a good overclocker as well so you would be able to ramp it to about 2.6 without any bother if thats what floats your boat. |
^ That setup looks good. You might have to find your CPU somewhere else though as Newegg is out of stock of most of the s939 X2's. |
oh sorry guys i forgot to clarify. im building a brand new setup. everything from the case to the motherboard, video card, cpu, ram, hdd, and drive. and i forgot to mention that whatever it is, i want it to be am2 socket! 500 doesnt sound like alot for all this i know, but i have made some cool ones on the wishlist that are pretty good! so if anyone wants to continue to help that would be greatly appreciated! |
Upgrade the graphics card, up it to 1gb RAM and save more money for next year. $500 isn't enough to make it worth replacing your entire system. |
I can't manage an AM2 rig for the asking price and to be honest I can't do a $500 C2D rig but I can do a $600 one at best. Spoiler: |
That should stand you in good stead, be aware though that it is probably worth the extra for 2 gb of ram if you can stretch that far. |
i was thinking the same thing..2gb can really help out nowadays. thx for the reply |
I think you should just save up more money and do it right the first time, get like 200USD more and you should do beter.... |
