Before you buy, you should verify that it will fit in your case. The 8800GTS is huge; over 9in long.

The thing is, my card IS fried. The heatsink, which I never thought to check, got clogged with debris and stopped the airflow to my card from working, and thus, died to death.

Did you pull the card and clear it out ?

Ok if thats the case, biff it then, it seems like its gone to GPU heaven :cya:.

So, 1950pro is all up in the pc news here, people raving about it for value, dollars per frames and it seems good. But the 7950 could easily take that crown if nvidia drop their prices. On that thgh and with the cash you have Id go 1950. :)

Sorry to stray a little off topic but can you own an 8800 and play directx 10 on xp or do you need vista? that would completely ruin Crysis for me lol.

Right now you need Vista to run DX10 , but n0e started a thread about a group that has hacked DX10 and created a wrapper that would enable you to play DX10 based games (provided you have a DX10 enabled VGA) on WinXP. You can find the thread here.

QFT. I agree with B@SE, the X1950Pro is the way to go, best bang for the buck.

I think you may need Vista for that, or so I have heard...never really have looked into it.

Yeah, I looked it over after the suggestions and decided the 1950 was the card I should get. I still had enough money left over to buy a LCD moniter. (Never have had one before. Been using same CRT for 4 years. WOOTS)

Awesome dude, what sort of LCD btw, less than 10ms I hope. ;)

heheh. You know it. I got the best deal I could find for 200 bucks on one. Hope it works well...Because if it doesn't D-Day is going to look like a tea party.

Newegg.com - ViewSonic Optiquest Series Q20WB Black 20" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1 - Retail

My current moniter is a view sonic and it has never failed me so I'm hoping for the same.
