new sound card

i think i bothered enough with my on-board sound card so i am just going to buy a PCI sound card. anyone know of a decent enough sound card under the range of $20 dollars? i found some few at newegg but didn't know which ones are worth the money because i dont want a cheap 10 dollar sound card.

thank you.

Sound Blaster PCI 128.
Amazon.com: Used and New: CRE CT4750 Sound-Blaster PCI 128 Sound Card

Worked just fine in my PC (had model CT4700) except with DOS games, but I had read it was because of a specific incompatibility with my VIA chipset.

Now, you won't get 5.1 with that... what exactly do you want to do with your sound card ?

nothing much really, just need to hear music and movies out of it without scratches and boom noises. my old card (onboard) was pretty crappy. i was playing GTA vice city and EVERY single time in the middle of the game the speakers would just go BOOM and that noise wouldnt stop untill i rebooted the machine.

Eh.. anything from newegg?

Here you go:
Newegg.com - Creative Sound Blaster 16 Pre-Amp 3000473000003 2 Channels 16-bit 48KHz PCI Interface Sound Card - OEM

Again, if you ever want to do 5.1 surround sound, this card won't do it for you.

But all soundcards share the same basic function- to take the job of figuring out how the sound is going to work, off of the CPU. And this card will do just that.
