Prob With V2. Constant Lockups.

No matter which game i play(Half Life/Aliens Vs. Predator) i get lockups when to much movement is done. Like if i spin around real fast while firing or like jumping and spinning to shoot behind me. No matter what i do i can't correct the problem with this. Also in my System Properties i get this:
www.thepeel.com/msilage/vid2.jpg
but in the first tab it says this
www.thepeel.com/msilage/vid1.jpg
If anyone can offer me some insight as how i can repair this i would be extremely appreciative. Gets quite annoying to play a game and suddenly game locks up(locks comp up too)and you have to reboot.
Comp Specs
PII 350
64 megs
Rage IIC AGP 2/D Card
Diamond Monster 3d II 8 meg
Windows 98
Any more info needed i can be contacted at icq #7949003 or email crass@thepeel.com

Thanks.

Firstly, 64meg is the minumum nowadays, you really need atleast 128 to gameplay.
You 8meg voodoo is also outdated and too slow. From your settings (pIII,350) you would be better off with a voodoo3 and maybe overclock it to get decent gameplay. Voodoo3's are very cheap now so get one. http://forums.voodooextreme.com/smile.gif

Yea they may be cheap but its not in my budget right now for either 64 more megs or a vd3. I have to work with what i got so i have to figure whats wrong till i can afford either of those.

I have found that all drivers released after the 2/1/99 reference driver are rather buggy, so that's the only one I recommend: http://voodooextreme.com/flypenguin/files/v2ref0299.zip

Keep in mind that this driver has no OpenGL support so you need to use the WickedGL miniport for Q3 and SoF.

Make sure the card is fully seated in it's slot. This is a VERY common problem with V2 cards and a casual inspection will not do. More details here: http://voodooextreme.com/flypenguin/glfaq4.htm#4_31

I would also be suspicious of your mouse hardware if it's fast movement that's causing it to lock up. Smells like a resource conflict or a bad driver to me. Install the latest driver for you mouse.

If the mouse is a USB model you may have a PCI IRQ channel Sharing conflict between the USB port and one of the PCI cards (NOT the same as an IRQ resource conflict). More details here: http://voodooextreme.com/flypenguin/glfaq5.htm#5_9

Hope this helps...

Gonna try the mouse thing. My mouse drivers are from 97. Maybe thats the prob. Will keep you updated. I downloaded the glsetup thing from glsetup.com and it updated my comp to drivers 4-3-2000 but i still get the message in system properties no drivers have been loaded or are required for this device.

Well had a little problem tonight. Windows decided to fall down, go boom so i had to do a reformat. Thought it might clear that little bug up with the drivers message in system properties but nothing. Still same old message. i yi yi....

Which video card are you using for the two games? you should use the secondary video card as your choice for games as the rage isn't suited for 3d games.
Make sure you are using 640x480 MiniGL in halflife and NOT the default openGL drivers.
Alien V Predator uses direct 3D, so you should choose the voodoo2 as you game renderer in the options and not use the default primary video card.

Hope this helps.
