These ones look much better than mine (e.g. explosions or weapons fire) So I wonder I there is a difference between the two graphics systems. Perhaps someone has an answer | Just as has been mentioned, OpenGL is MUCH faster than D3D. I also have never seen a difference in visual quality between the two, so if you can, by all means use OpenGL. But if you get the Geforce card, OpenGL won't be an issue anyway.
As far as 3DFX goes, the company IS dead. I was totally taken by the announcement back in Dec/2000, but business is business. Recently I blew up my Voodoo3 2000 by overclocking too long. Oh well, I tried the Geforce, didn't like it, ordered a Radeon from Newegg.com, and took that Geforce back to the store. I'm sure the Geforce cards are great, especially the $300 variety, but the Radeon is more along my lines. The visual quality is better, and I like my frame rate better. But that's just me. (It's still no Voodoo though. Glide mode ROCKS!!)
