New notebook, now or wait till Vista matures?

I am buying a new notebook in the next couple of days, probably from staples, i noticed they ahve the best prices. All new notebooks pretty much have Vista on them, but there are laptops on clearence that have windows XP media center on them, and theres still quite a few left. I hear Vista is somewhat icky and is acting like any other fine piece of art microsoft has produced, so should I grab an XP notebook, a Vista notebook, or wait a while till Vista matures?

Get the XP laptop. Vista is too resource hungry, espically for a laptop. And XP will scream compared to Vista.

Yup, now is a good time to get a new XP machine on clearance.

Unless you're planning on using the laptop for some uber hardcore gaming (in which case, I'd suggest you get a desktop if at all possible anyway), then I would just buy whatever laptop you fancy and then replace the OS with Linux. Depending on where you buy it from, you may even be able to get a discount if you can get them to sell it to you without Windows. Of course, not every retailer will do such a thing (most of their 'experts' don't know of anything beyond Windows/Mac anyway), but it would save you a pretty penny if you could.

Otherwise, definitely go with Windows XP. I could not, in good conscience, ever advise somebody to buy Windows Vista, ever.
