What should I replace? As the title says, what should I phase out of my specs? Specs: Nvidia Geforce6600 1536 Mb of ram 300gb harddrive IntelPentiumD Processor 64 bit monitor [whatever that means] And I will get the rest of my specs later, so which ones should I upgrade/phaseout? |
Re: What should I replace? Your setup sounds similar to mine, but is your Pentium a Socket 478 or a LGA775? If it's 775 then you should just keep your processor (Unless it's like a 2.2 or 2.4 GHz, but they'd be ok) but if it's 478 (Like mine) then you're going to almost need to upgrade that and your graphics card. Your graphics for sure could use some updating, the rest all sounds pretty good. |
Re: What should I replace? If you're gonna upgrade anything, make it that video card. |

I would get a better video card, assuming you have a PCIe system (judging by the Pentium D), something like a Geforce 7600 would be good, and not very expensive at roughly $100. And maybe up your RAM to 2GB. |
Re: What should I replace? what frequency is your CPU at? Video card could be replaced, thought i have the same one and i have no complaints thus far. However, may want to grab a 8600 when they are out |
Re: What should I replace? Depends on what you want to do with your computer. Unless you want to play very recent games with full effects, I don't think there is a real need to change anything. |
Re: What should I replace? pentium d's are lga 775 but for certain use berlac advisor to find out then tells us so we can help you choose your next processor and motherboard etc |

And about my processor I think I got about 3Ghz. I'll have to check though, I dont even think a 2 year old processor could have that... |

Re: What should I replace? He could have a 478, the 2.66 and the 2.8 Pentium D's (which are the only 90nm's in the series, the rest are 65nm) were released in 478 versions. But it is doubtful. And he COULD have AGP, but this is even more doubtful. Still may want to check... But yes, everything is fine, leave your processor, wait til march for a lower end 8600, check if your RAM is dual channel, if not, get another 512, or 1gig, depending on how it is setup so you have 2GB's, less of course you don't plan on running VISTA anytime soon. |
