Few Questions on V5 OK i just recently bought a Voodoo 5and i have a 333 Mz Celeron CPU and 128 megs of RAM and i used to have a Voodoo 3. Well b4 i bought this Voodoo 5, i was playing Heretic 2 (dont know if u have ever heard of it) and in the game u can bring up the console and type "timerefresh" where it spins you around and gets your fps (frames per sec.) Anyways when i had my voodoo 3 in, the highest it came up with was 60.12895 fps at the highest Now i bought this Voodoo 5 expecting that # to sky rocket but the highest fps i get when i type that is like 63.90823 nuch much difference than my old Voodoo 3 card! Im not sure if that really tells me the "real" fps of my card but i ran a time demo on a demomap and i got the same results.. Im just hope this can be fixed and hhopefully find out how to find out my real and max fps for this card THX http://forums.voodooextreme.com/smile.gif |
You're going to be limited by your processor being so slow. You're probably not going to be able to see much of a boost with any kind of video upgrade on that system. You might want to look into upgrading the processor/motherboard. Otherwise the big bonus is going to be in visual improvement through FSAA. |
I suspect that your are not disabling VSync. With VSync enabled your framerate cannot exceed your monitor's vertical refresh, which I suspect is set for 60 Hz in 3D mode. Note: You do NOT want to disable VSync for normal gameplay otherwise you will get image tearing. Only disable it for testing. ------------------ The Flying Penguin :) http://TheFlyingPenguin.com |
OK Penguin How do i disable the Vsync? will it improve my fps? |
Python, disabling VSync is ONLY for testing purposes. You DO NOT want to do it for playing otherwise you'll get terrible image tearing. I'm not familiar with the V5 so I don't know how to disable it - there may be a setting in the display properties, or you may need to download a utility. Rest assured that you ARE getting max performance out of the card, even if VSync is enabled. You can also try increasing the refresh rate in 3D mode if the V5 allows you to adjust it - again look in the display properties. ------------------ The Flying Penguin :) http://TheFlyingPenguin.com |
