| Hi all this is my first post! Have a bit of money spare so building a PC The parts I'm buying are: Asus M2N32 deluxe wireless edition AMD Athlon AM2 64 X2 4600+ OCZ Platinum 2GB DDR2 800 XTC PC6400 Nvidia 7950 GX2 1GB DDR3 36GB 10K western digital hard drive 500GB 7.2K Sata 16mb DVD/RW 18x lightscribe 800w power supply Thermaltake Window Tsunami Dream Aluminium case I'm using it for gaming and downloading, does this all sound right to everyone ie. will everything fit everything?? Going to run this system on XP Pro 64 do people recommend this? Do I have to get a sound card for this system or just run it of the Asus motherboard? Is it worth just getting the 5200 cpu instead of the 4600 or is there no need on this sytem? Sorry for all the questions I'm new to building a computer althought I work as an Instrument technician so have background in electronics Cheers Mathew Last edited by maty_mackay123; November 28th, 2006 at 03:14 PM.. | Well I whouldent got for the AMD X2. Rather the intel core 2 duo. Mush more performance. And if you are getting a nvidia 7950 fgx2 I whould rather go for a nvidia geforce 8800 seriers. Either GTS ore GTX. Since they are newer cards that support DX10 and shader model 4. I just taking a wild guess that you are from the US. CPU: E6600 Ore if you dont want to spend that much, E6400 Motherboard: not sure. GPU: GTS GTX |

| I hate doing this, i feel like I am kicking a puppy (AMD) to entertain a bully (Intel) If you want a really good gaming system, look at the Intel Core 2 cpu, they preform better than the current AMD Athlon x2's. but that is still a good system. everything will work. The 5200 would give more l2 cache, and a faster clock frequency. if you can swing it, why not? Only AMD cpu I would fouch against is the FX series, becasue of the huge price diffrence, and for not that much of a preformance increase. Windows xp x64 it not really needed as of now. the vast majority of programs still run on 32 bit systems, and i have not heard of a game that is exclusive to 64-bit. also, drivers may be an issue with x64, but its been out for a while, so most manufasturers should have 64-bit drivers out now. check out the websites of your manufacturers to see if they have 64-bit drivers

| To be honest mate, get a Core 2 Duo E6600. And yeah, I did read about the motherboard - An E6600 will be about 70 quid cheaper than a 5200+. Use that to buy a motherboard for the E6600 lol. Also, consider contacting the retailer you bought it from. If it's unopened and undamaged they may take it back if you pay postage and perhaps a small 'restocking' fee.
