A 7600GT is a good choice, although it's also worth looking at a 7900GS which can be had for similar money to the 7600GT XXX that Vikke posted. http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=476782

RAM is about £30-40 for 512mb, IIRC.

But, uh, I want to check something. You say you have a 3.06GHz P4 and a PCI-E graphics card? The only 3.06GHz P4 ever made was a Northwood B model, using socket 478. So unless you've upgraded your motherboard in the last couple of years, you have AGP (or PCI, if you're unlucky). Even if you upgraded your motherboard, PCI-E motherboards for socket 478 are very rare and chances are you still only have AGP and PCI, not PCI-E.

And there's no way in hell you have a Northwood B and DDR2 RAM.

Unless you mean the 3.06GHz Celeron...

I did found three motherboards that uses socket 478 and have a pcie 16x port.

But none of them uses DDR2 memory.

Get out of socket 478. It will be phased out more sooner than later.

Find a combo board and chip with pic-e slot and at least 4 dims. Most of the integrated sound cards can do 7.1 so save money on the sound card bid.

You diffinitly want 1 gig of ram.

And at least an nvidia 6800 gt or a radeon x800 pro and above.

I have a P4 3 GHz and a pci express slot so yeah it's possible to have that... For him having DDR2 he prolly has a 925X motherboard that sports DDR2.

925X with socket 478, somehow I can't see that working...

Sorry Impulse, you're gonna have to ignore me. I checked and they did make a 3.06GHz for LGA775 (model 519, apparently). I thought that the only 3.06GHz ones they made was an old P4 and one of the recent Celerons. My bad. But uh, yeah, anyway...7600GT or a 7900Gs are good choices.
