Thank you |
Re: help with pc lagging troubles I think you should go for something like the 7600 gt. http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=458375 But if you want to spend all youre money and get little bit beter card you should go for the 7900GT http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=358819 |
Re: help with pc lagging troubles What is your buget...? I would say Ultra High end: 7950 GX2 or X1950 XTX over 500 dollars High end: 7900 GTO or X1900 XT 400-500 dollars Mid end: 7900 GS or X1800 XT 200-300 Low end: 6800 GS or a X850 XT 100-200 dollars |
Re: help with pc lagging troubles It would be nice if we could convert the pounds into US dollars. oh, wait 160pounds= 300USD. You're ram could use a bump up to atleast one gig too. Oh, and in other news.... :eek:WOOOOOOOO! 2,000 POSTS! WOOOOOO! Sorry about that, I'm just rather happy with myself about that.:) |
Re: help with pc lagging troubles A 7600GT is a good choice, although it's also worth looking at a 7900GS which can be had for similar money to the 7600GT XXX that Vikke posted. http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=476782 RAM is about £30-40 for 512mb, IIRC. But, uh, I want to check something. You say you have a 3.06GHz P4 and a PCI-E graphics card? The only 3.06GHz P4 ever made was a Northwood B model, using socket 478. So unless you've upgraded your motherboard in the last couple of years, you have AGP (or PCI, if you're unlucky). Even if you upgraded your motherboard, PCI-E motherboards for socket 478 are very rare and chances are you still only have AGP and PCI, not PCI-E. And there's no way in hell you have a Northwood B and DDR2 RAM. Unless you mean the 3.06GHz Celeron... |
Re: help with pc lagging troubles I did found three motherboards that uses socket 478 and have a pcie 16x port. http://prisguide.hardware.no/product...roductId=35102 http://prisguide.hardware.no/product...roductId=23276 http://prisguide.hardware.no/product...roductId=35388 But none of them uses DDR2 memory. |
Re: help with pc lagging troubles Get out of socket 478. It will be phased out more sooner than later. Find a combo board and chip with pic-e slot and at least 4 dims. Most of the integrated sound cards can do 7.1 so save money on the sound card bid. You diffinitly want 1 gig of ram. And at least an nvidia 6800 gt or a radeon x800 pro and above. |

Sorry Impulse, you're gonna have to ignore me. I checked and they did make a 3.06GHz for LGA775 (model 519, apparently). I thought that the only 3.06GHz ones they made was an old P4 and one of the recent Celerons. My bad. But uh, yeah, anyway...7600GT or a 7900Gs are good choices. |
Re: help with pc lagging troubles Why dose he only have 512 megs of ram when he's got 2 sticks of memory... :S |

i was waiting for the punch line. But seriously: I have an sli system with dual core amd. You don't need 512 meg video cards. There really isn't anything that takes advantage of this at the moment. And by the time there is. The next big thing will be out. This is just like when they came out with farcry. The game ( for once) was more advanced than that of the systems ( graphic cards) that were out. Want to do cheap sli? 7600gs's by evga, approximately 80.00 a piece usd. They render everything fine. And i do mean everything. From Doom3 to Battlefield 2 and oblivion. Motherboard ? Kn8sli by abit. Great board. Chip ? amd 3800 dual core is a great entry level chip. But you deffiinitly want at least 1 gig of memory running with this machine. I would run less anymore. |
Re: help with pc lagging troubles You mean shiitakia mushrooms.... :p He shotuld just put in that other 512 meg chip and all he would really need is a new video card... I'd say he could get himself a 7900 GS if he has a decent power supply if not a 7600 GS or GT still a great option... |
