Pc help needed

Ok as of late my computer turns the firewall off and automatic updates and it seems to do it all by its self. And I have tried to turn them back on the way your supposed to, but it tells me it cant. So I have to reboot each time it does it to get them back on again, then I am fine for a while utill it does it again. Anyone know why this is going on? Thanks.

If it's the Windows firewall that's being turned off, and it's the only one you use then it might be an idea to invest in a better one, or download one of the free ones (Kerio, Zone Alarm). If the Windows firewall is being turned off and you have another firewall on your system already, your second firewall is probably disabling the Windows one. They tend to interfere with each other and it makes troubleshooting harder, so it's best to only use one and so since XP SP2 introduced a Windows firewall most of them turn it off by default.

If it's not the Windows firewall that's being turned off, and it's something else, then try a different one and see if it still happens.

As for the updates, don't have a clue.

Yes I only have the one firewall, I guess I will try out a differnt one soon, unless someone here has a clue why this is going on, thanks for the advice.

Maybe it helps to take a look at "services" (can be found somewhere in start, control panel, system options, administrative tools), there you can configure things like automatic updates.

Yes I have looked into that now, but I think the problem is deeper then that, cuz now my msn messenger wont stay logged in, it justs shuts down right after I log in. So I am gonna remove it and all things related to it, then try a freah install.. I have scanned and cleaned my registry, there was like 40 or so differnt errors. Maybe that will help.

I would run a virus scan too....

It would be a good idea, just to make sure that a virus isn't giving you problems.
