7200 rpm hard drive
Hey I'm getting a new hard drive within the week and I've decided on a 7200 rpm Maxtor 27 gig'r...question is there is a 5400 rpm Maxtor 40 gig'r for only 40 bux more...should I go with the bigger yet slower rpm drive or should I stick to the 7200 rpm one...the 27 gig is $204 and the 40 gig is $248...thnx |
if i was you i would stick with the 7200 rpm. i have a 7200 rpm and i love it adn 27 gigs is pretty hard to fill up. One more thing as time goes by Programs and games are required to have more and more power to pump out and getting a fast hard drive , i think, will help you out more then more memeroy. So go what ever your price range takes you http://www.reviewseek.com/ve/ubbhtml/smile.gif and Just to tell you what kind i got and tell you how it runs: Western Digital 20.4 7200 RPM's And i never had a problem yet with it (IT is fast) so go get you what you need fast or more space!!! sorry for all the grammer mistakes |
Well, I started out with a Maxtor 13.6 GB 7200 RPM drive in my computer I bought almost 3 months ago. Within a month, I ran out of space so I bought a Western Digital Expert 27.3 GB 7200 RPM drive. But I managed to fill most of that one up too. So now Im buying a burner for removable storage. Its kinda tough to decide in your situation. I would normally always recommend the 7200 RPM drive (speed is an often looked over trait of hard drives but very important) because you do need the speed. Copying from drive to drive is slow with 5400 and also, games running from the HD can lag on 5400. But then 40 something gigs for that price is good. You might think you'll never fill it up, but remeber back in the day when 1 gig drives came out and no one thought is was possible to fill those up? I would say the speed is more important though. If you manage to fill the 27 giger up, then I would recommend doing what Im doing - buying a burner for unlimited storage. I recommend the 7200 rpm drive |
well I've seemed to have killed 2 birds with one credit card..I ordered myself the 27 gig 7200 rpm hard drive and the wife ordered me a 4x4x32 cd-rw burner for x-mas so i should be set! hehe..btw i remember when we thought we'd never fill up that ultra huge 210 MEG drive http://www.reviewseek.com/ve/ubbhtml/smile.gif |
I've just bought the Maxtor 7200rpm 27.3gig and it's great. It's really fast and theres a definite difference between my old 5400rpm drive. However, make sure that if you buy a large drive that you don't have any partition bigger than 8Gb or the cluster size will be 16Kb or higher which is not very efficient use of hard disk space. |
I just left mine the full 27 gigs..took up 2 gigs for the boot and stuff but i would shoot myself if I had to delete one thing just to install another anytime soon. http://www.reviewseek.com/ve/ubbhtml/smile.gif |
