Well yes i did indeed make the files private, however as i said my computer did not let me delete the SAM files so im assuming that you, FN_lewrbm69, know someway of using the SAM files to get my junk back.
As for booting up the OS from another CD im assuming i have to call my computer manufacturer get the cds and boot up and do what just what you said Nem.
Im just pissed about loosing all of my music but hey at least usb ports work again.
there is but it is hard as hell to do online you can do linux in a 2ed partition and recover them like that. but it is ezer to rip them from your CD you bought them from. and redo the OS there for your sake lost.
i do this for a living reciver lost data fix OSs and build computer to order.
and i guess the account you are trying to deleat the file from dos ento have admin rights, so you will not beable to do it, you wil haft to hook the drive up to a second computer an log in under the seconds computers admin and go in to the hard drive and delete the sam files.
but since the files you want you are dead in the water to put is lightly
Am i going to have to use the OS though, or is there someway to retrieve the files and just go back to using XP.
Because it boots from CD you use the OS once to move the files out of the folder they're in to a folder that isn't restricted and then you reboot without the CD in the drive and start windows as normal.
There's even a handy FAQ about it here: http://www.shockfamily.net/cedric/knoppix/

Sounds good Nem , thanks for the help though FN_lewrbm69, and everyone else.
Allthough id like to know if i have admin access or not because we settled that i cant open the old profile because it i set the documents to private but at the same time i have the ability to create users with limited or admin access and when i did that, even for the new admin i created i still got stupid messages like the contents of this folder ar hidden even though, even though it flat out gave me an option to view them. It seems like im admin though but i just cant access my old profile.
Go to the control pannel,
switch to classic view
Open the administrative tools,
Open computer management.
You should see a tree structure on the right, expand the one that says 'local users and groups'
Click on the users folder.
Find the username you're using at the moment and double click it
Open the 'member of' tab.
That should tell you whether you're an admin or not.
Alright, there should be a row of buttons along the top of the window, the one next to the folder with an arrow in it (just to the right I think) should be the show/hide tree structure button. Try that.
You probably need to expand the system tools part of it then in order to see that local users and groups folder. Been so long since I played around in there I've forgoten what it was set up like the first time I used it.
