Some Mouse Help

Ok, I've been thinking about getting a new mouse lately. My old mouse is a Logitech MX700 (wireless with the recharge base) which I've had forever and its a great mouse. Here lately though, the battery life has been shorter (Due to old age), the paint and finish is coming off of it, and my mousewheel and stuff doesn't work, plus its just 800 DPI I think.

I want to get either a Logitech G5 or a Logitech G7 but I'm unsure about the whole batteries thing. I was wondering if anyone who upgraded from the MX700 could tell me how the G7/G5 is, or if anyone who is using the G7/G5 could say. How many hours @ 2000 DPI can you get while gaming on the G7 if anyone knows? Is there another color for that G5 because I hate that orangish rust color.

Also, I have been wondering, is there a good mouse pad for gaming that also has a nice little gel wristrest? I've got a nice gel wristrest/mousepad combo and its nice and comfy but I don't want to go to a mousepad that has no support at all, as thats very uncomfortable as well as strange being I've had this pad for like 5 years. I know they make pads you can put in front of the pad but the problem I find is that during gaming and stuff, it manages to scoot away and the mouse pad gets crooked, etc etc and its a hassle. Do the pads that are game enhanced even make a difference?

Just a little after note, I've been hearing a lot about short battery life and being told like it dies in 1 day and needs to be recharged. My MX700 can run from off the charger for about 16 hours before it starts flashing red in my experience, it used to go about 24 before it did that, so are these people just not using their mouse a lot or what? Also, what do you all think about TrackBalls for gaming? I hear talk a lot of people love them but I've never ever used one.

One more note, I've been reading now that the G5 and G7 actually are really difficult to use the middle mouse button and they removed the forward button. Are there any other good mice out there with adjustable DPI for gaming?

As for the pad try the 3M pad with the built in gel. You can find it at Comp USA and other places.
You could also get a good pad and try taping/glueing the gel tro the desk, depending on how much you like your desk

Well I'll just make a note of it, the G5 is not wireless and I don't need to have a wireless mouse. I just want a mouse thats good for gaming, comfortable, good design, etc etc. The MX700 is a very nice mouse and I really like it so something similar is what I want.

G5 is your savior. By far the best gaming mouse out there, and it has the classic perfect Logitech design

Is it really that big of a difference with just a back button and no forward side button? Like I said, I've also heard it's hard to use the middle mouse button because of the side scroll. Also, does anyone here use any of the Razer Diamonback or Copperhead mice? If so, what about those? Thanks again

I went from the MX510 to the Razer Diamonback,i preferd the grip on the MX510 but it was 800dpi and the Razer is 1600dpi which is better for gaming,i don't like a cordless mouse but then again i have only had a cheepish one before.

How is the MX518? It looks kinda like an updated MX700...Also, does it really matter between Optical and Laser?

I think the MX518 is an updated 510 and my mate likes it but the switch on mouse button 1 broke for me twice,hence why i went for a differant make,laser is supposed to be very good but expensive,never used one myself.best thing to do is find one you like the look of then get some reviews on it and also compare it to your MX700 ie search for "Razer Diamonback vs MX700"

I myslef have the MX510 (which was replaced by the 518), and have several good coments about it:

-It's ergonomically designed
-It has five buttons (plus the up and down motion of the scrowl wheel)
-It looks sharp
-It's very reasonably priced.

I'd have no inhibitions about recomending the 518 to ya.

Look at the razer mice as well. They are possibly the best gaming mice out there. I have the Razer Diamondback and it's awesome. They don't have cordless mice though. I used to have a cordless but quickly switched. Nothing is worse than playing a death match on Quake and your freakin mouse dies.
