Media Player not detecting internet connection

Here recently I've been having a minor problem where my media player cannot seem to detect my broadband internet connection. Strange thing is that I have the exact same security settings on my other computers and the media player detects the internet connection on them just fine. I've been through all of the settings I can think of and I still can't seem to get it to connect. I even went as far as upgrading to the beta release of Media Player 11 and I've still not had any luck. Any suggestions in fixing this would be greatly appreciated.

My specs for anyone that might need them.

Do you have a firewall active on your router or pc, this could be blocking it?

I have a software firewall on each of my computers and I have the firmware firewall active on my router. The security settings are the exact same on each of the computers yet only the media player on my pc cannot find the internet connection. :\

........odd, all the firewall rules and everything are the same? the settings in the WMP are the same too? if so u may try just uninstall and reinstall....

Tried that as well by uninstalling WMP 10 and installing the beta version of 11 without any luck. Guess I'll have to try it again.

hmmmm try going into tools>player (tab)>and check "Connect to internet (overrides othercommands)" see if that works

I've also done that as well. I'm going to go with the uninstall and reinstall and see if that corrects the problem. I'll report back here on what happens.

Just an update to earlier. I attempted to uninstall and reinstall the media player only to discover that it doesn't show up in the add/remove programs in the control panel. To go a step further I compared the WMP settings on my pc to my laptop side by side and they all match up exactly but for some odd reason WMP on my desktop will not detect my internet connection whereas WMP on my laptop will. The only difference in the connection between my desktop and my laptop is that my laptop runs on a wireless connection. Everything else from a security standpoint (e.g. AV, Firewall, etc) is exactly the same. Honestly I'm completely stumped as to why this problem would occur on only one of my computers when the settings are exactly the same on other computers in my house (have verified the settings myself).

Ok, I have since uninstalled WMP beta 11 and reinstalled WMP 10 and I'm still having the same issues. As stated in my post above the settings on my desktop are exactly the same as they are on my other computers and yet I'm only having the problem on my desktop. :s

EDIT:
On a hunch I tried uninstalling the IE7 Beta 2 and once I removed it everything that wasn't working in my media player immediatly started working again.
