If you had looked at my sig you would of noticed what i have....have you looked yet??? yes a venice 3200+ running at 2.4ghz thats equivilant to 3800+,have you done any research into these new cores that are so called bad at overclocking???i don't think so,as you don't know what your talking about, and as for the 146 they are actually better then the venice because of a lower voltage eg 1.45vcore should get you 2.4ghz on a venice and 2.7ghz on the opteron. The "p4" yes good at overclocking but for 1:they use twice as much power and 2:they get alot hotter. Also to add insult to injury they cost more than the equivilant AMD.

Now, yes, I'm sure you can find on the internet somewhere that someone has overclocked one to 3GHz or something; but that doesn't mean you can do it with your setup. Really, if you wanted to overclock you should've stayed with your P4 lol. Although they do vary, they can take a hell of a lot of abuse when overclocking.

Wow, 400MHz, I'm stunned by the sheer uberness of that increase...
As for your sig, yeah that was my mistake...I got you confused with the topic starter. What one CPU can do is irrelevant, especially when it's from a different product lineup. After all, single/dual core is about as different as CPUs can get from each other.

But my original comment that got some people arguing with me was aimed at the recent socket 939 CPUs, not the older 754 and 940 CPUs (like the 146) which were quite highly praised for their overclocking capability when they were new.
My chip is a 939 opteron (single core) and is from Dec05/Jan06
But I do agreee there is less headroom in the AMD dual core X2 chips,
but the dual Opteron on 939 ARE still very clockable.
