what do you think we will be at in 5 years in terms of pc hardware. looking back i remember when 9250 pros were king and that was only like 5 years ago. i think the rate we're going now we will have some cool stuff!

Im expecting 1.2petabytes of hdd space, 120gig blue-ray dvd's, 3ghz cpu's with tiny instruction pipelines and quantum cpu's on the market, 10ghz core clock speed in gfx cards, 20ghz mem speed for them

by petabytes are those terabytes? sorry i dont keep track of it even though i should. that would be sick having a 10 ghz core clock and a mem clock of it. and like 4 gig of memory!

Won't happen. They're still trying to break the 4 and 5 Ghz barrier on CPU's, but because everything keeps wanting to go smaller, it means more cooling, therefore its just not practical, and having a GPU of similar speeds is no different.

Until this barrier is broken, processing unit technology is gonna go nowhere.

They are getting there though, they have theories on how to do it, and we'll see in the next year or two if they work out. Nobody wants a 20 pound cooling unit full of liquid nitrogen on their CPU just to have it run at 5+ Ghz, and imagine trying that on a GPU...

Responding to
the Dell XPS Renegade is planned to have P4 Extrememe Edition overclocked to 4.26 gHz. Sure it's overclocked, but this is set for release this year, and all it has is a massive heatsink on it. Think about it, overclocking a processor can't be done too much (recomended about 10%-20% on CPU speed) without proper cooling without damage being done to the CPU and/or other components. In 5 years? I'd say a 5 ghz+ CPU with a logical, small-scale cooling system is quite easily possible.
