you might want to look at AMDs overlooked 3700+ series, i have one and its great
Processor - 1 x AMD Athlon 64 3700+ / 2.2 GHz - Socket 939 - L2 1 MB
and just for the extra info...
if your like me and like overclocking things, the max you can overclock the 3700+ using its original heat sink and fan (and a bit of thermal paste) is up to a 2.57gb processor which runs at 19'c while just running windows, and while doing a benchmark will get upto 43'c
(the temps may also be so low because of my thermaltake case)

I'd go Dual Core, the Fx is great but is it worth 100% extra cost for 5-10% performance increase? The difference between the two chips is negligable when looking at the price difference.
