What is a 6800GE? What the hell is a 6800GE? I've never heard of the GE before. Its cheaper than a GT, but I'm not looking at PCI-X (need I remind you I'm running a 478 CPU, and with no plans to upgrade my CPU in the near future, I'm staying AGP (only 2 mobos support this, one is a mini-ATX which throws that out the window, the other is 89 bucks). So now I'm torn. My old card is now officially dead, reformatting never fixed anything, since I tried it, just to see. So now my dad is helping me find a new card. I believe he is looking at the 6800ge, but I canot be sure (he said he found an eVGA one that supported AGP8x, with 256mb of vidmem. I searched there, since he was busy, and couldn't get me a link, and I saw the price gap with the 6800GE. I'm gonna guess that was it.) So anyways, what is this card, what should I do. I've got a somewhat free run (of course, it is doubtful I can get a X800, or 850. I've got an invisible budget) so, I could get the GE, but I've been looking at either a 6600GT, a 6800GT (this one is far less likely, because of the price), and now, the 6800GE. My preference is Nvidia, so if you suggest cards, try to stay Nvidia with em. Can someone help me here? I know C3 knows his stuff, so see if you can beat him to it :naughty: |

Re: What is a 6800GE? The 6600GE isn't officially a new nVidia product, rather a sort of half-breed. It features a 6600 core overclocked to GT speeds. It uses components sourced from the GT (HSF unit, reference PCB), but is much cheaper than an "official" 6600GT. It's very overclockable, and can easily beat a GT if clocked. It's available in both AGP and PCI-Express/SLI, so it depends which one you're looking at. Double-check it. |

Re: What is a 6800GE? Hm, just spotted you were on about a 6800GE. Although the same basic principle applies, information on the 6800GE can be found here. As you can see from the image, it's definately available in AGP. (there's no SLI bridge on the top of the card, for the PCI-E version.) Edit: @Jakkc, no-one's perfect. :p |
Re: What is a 6800GE? But... was i right about the oracle :p |
Re: What is a 6800GE? the 6600 GE looks excally like my beloved 6600 GT. |
Re: What is a 6800GE? GE sounds similiar to LE-low end maybe GE stands for Gaming End. Sounds about right. |
