Re: Help with my future GAMING SYSTEM

No.

Did you put this together or is it premade? If the latter you should just get the individual components and put it together yourself, for a much lesser price at that.

Also, as far as AMD goes go with either the Venice or San Diego cores. Do they make 3400's in the latest cores? I'm not sure, but I would guess no. Either go with the 3500 venice, or 3700 san diego (I got this one, it's nice). Don't go with an agp video card either because now the latest thing is PCI Express so it's better to go with that instead.

From the looks of it, what you selected looks too pricy for what it is.

Its not worth that much, if you dont want to save loads of $$$ and build it yourself then wait for one of these guys to give you a half decent cheap website.

Also it could also be socket 754 which isnt the newest. You want socket 939.

He said he's to lazy. Listen to what people tell you, no need to question people all the time.

Re: Help with my future GAMING SYSTEM

I'm trying to save him some money k? With premade systems you pay a TREMENDOUS amount of money just on the brand name, and for a good gaming system for what he wants could cost hundreds of dollars more than what he could spend if he made it himself. Think of it this way: he spends 1200 on a better gaming system than what he could have gotten for 2000, and he could use that 800 he saved on something like a xbox360 or an ipod, or maybe a car, whatever.

i would go PCI express, this is the way technology is moving, and its very upgrade freindly. one thing they taught me in ITT, is to make your network, or PC, expandable, by all and any means.

1 all except the 6800 GT, the x800 xl and x800 xt pe can be found cheaper, there much better in all except one game.

2 yes it will handle halo, if for some reason you think halo is hardcore, whatever, it will handle it.

3 again the x800's are better in about all games except doom3. lots of games out comming out on the d3 engine, like PREY and quake 4. if you really want to play those, than an x850 xt pe would be best. again, PCI-E, there cards are cheaper most of the time anyway.

If I were you, this is what I would do. I would get off my lazy butt (figuratively) and do my research!!! Oh wait, nvm, I already did that...

http://www.newegg.com/

or if you must, http://www.tigerdirect.com/

(NewEgg is king!!!)

while halo is not "harecore" it is a killer on Pc's I went though 3 graphics cards to run it smoothly. The Fx59xx and 9800 series struggled with it when it came out.

As for the debate of ATI vs Nvida, it depends on the site your reading from. ATi does better in Hl2 and Far cry while nivda does better in doom and unlear 3 engine based games. In other games the speed differnces are so minute they are the same.

Re: Help with my future GAMING SYSTEM

I could run Halo on a GeForce 4. It was touched up after the port from the Xbox, which uses a GeForce 4, but the engine wasn't rewritten. Only the textures were changed, so more RAM would be sufficient. Since most modern day PCs have more RAM than Xboxes, it should work fine.

Hey, if HL2 runs fine on a GeForce 4, Halo should.

the engine is poorly compiled and optimized. typical M$. a good game though.

no single company is "king" cheif value and zipzoomfly always has better prices than newegg. newegg has everything though, which is really good. www.pricewatch.com is really the best place to search for prices. anyone can find anything extremly low here.

as for this, your completly right. its jsut that ATI has better dx9 support, and benches higher in dx9 games and engines, lots of things detirmine frame rate other than this ofcourse. DooM 3 benched higher for nvidia because the engine was optimized and restructured/rebuilt when the nv40 core was announced. im not completly sure if nvidia worked with ID to do this. the x-ray is a dx9 engine that will favor nvidia, very rare, but nvidia is partner to GSC and the game STALKER is getting some extra eye candy for 7800's. ATI will preform fine in the game, but be just behind. how far is unsure until the game, and the x1800 xt pe is released.

that is pretty much the exact same system i am running, 3400+ newcastle and mobo are the same as mine, i have had no problems with either but i wish i would have picked a mobo with pci instead of agp, i am prolly going to switch it out soon for a pci mobo

the price is a bit expensive i built mine for a little over $750 from newegg and that was just 5 months ago

THIS is the standard of today and what I bought a few weeks back. Just one exception already: GeForce 6600/6800 GT with 256 megs of RAM. That kind of PC should last for the next 6 or 7 years, or so I hope. ;)
