Broken xbox

This will be my one topic on your forums so please just answer it.

When I press the power button on my xbox it lights up and everything but like 2 seconds after i turn it on it go's, click,click,click,click...1 second later same thing and over and over until the light around the eject button turns red and says "your xboxs needs service". It does this every time I turn it on ,exept every week or two it turns on but when I shut it off it wont turn back on without not working. If you can ,tell me whats wrong so I can have it fixed.

Once more This will be my only topic on your forums and when its answered I will leave.

I have no idea other than telling you to follow the directions and get it serviced.

Please be patient, just because there are no replies within twenty minutes of you posting a thread doesn't mean that no one is going to reply.

Re: Broken xbox

The thing is If I have it serviced it will cost around $120 , but a new xbox is only $130.

Why not hold off for two months and get an XBOX 360?

Re: Broken xbox

People are less likely to help you if you tell them you're just using them for an answer, then leaving their community forever.

If it says it needs service, then it probably does. The clicking suggests an optical drive issue - have you tried it without a DVD in the drive? If that doesn't work, it's probably best to either buy a new Xbox or wait for a 360.

Re: Broken xbox

You probly got sumthin stuck in the drive like Reven said - i had the same problem with my PS2. If not, your drive is probly damaged

Re: Broken xbox

There is nothing stuck in the drive.

Well it seems you have 2 choices here.
Take it to get looked at and pay money or open it up and see what is going on yourself. Maybe it's something you can fix?
Try kicking it?
good luck man.

Re: Broken xbox

Im not getting the 360 for at least a year after it comes out, so Ill wait until it comes out and buy a new xbox when the price drops.

I think I may be able to help you, but I want to get one thing straight. You want help, but then you'll disappear into the abyss of the Internet.

Oh yeah, about that advice of mine; FORGET IT!!!

Only thing you can do is what already been said. Buy a new one, or just wait for a 360, or even better yet just game on your comp :) . But it does sound like a CD-Rom problem. Meh what can you say, its M$.

Now, now Agent, don't be too hard on him. After all, he wants to ditch us after we help him! Anyhow, yeah, wtf would drive someone to buy an Xbox over PS2? Consoles suck, period. I have a PS2 and SNES. I sold my N64 a couple of years back...I sure want it back, but I might buy an Xbox 360 when it comes out, cuz I have a home theater system, and will soon hopefully have a widescreen HDTV. :naughty:

Probably because XBOX is better than a PS2? Yeah that's it.

I hate consoles and like gaming on a PC better but a console comes in handy when having friends/family over for some relaxing couch gaming.

Yes I agree.

No, you tell your friends/family to bring their PC and a PCI network card so you can connect to a router and play on a LAN. http://www.gamingforums.com/images/smilies/pwned.gif

Children, if any of you spam this thread any more I will remove all of your posts from this thread, valid or invalid.

Whether he is going to leave or not after we help him is irrelevant. You may choose not to help him because of this, but this is not the place to voice your opinion on such things.

Re: Broken xbox

Just ran across this thread... I've been having similar issues, minus the red power light.

Did you get a new power cable through the replacement program? If you did and it was a huge GFCI power cable, your power supply may be slightly busted. Microsoft so far has done a good job of covering this up.

The early Foxfire power supplies had a poor solder connection between the power plug prongs (you know, the little things inside the socket) and the motherboard, causing shortages and fires. I'm in the process of fixing mine over this weekend, I'll let you know how it turns out.

If the cord damaged the power supply, using a different controller won't help. It means the power supply is permantly damaged if I understand it correctly.

Re: Broken xbox

how would I know if it was damaged?

Lulolwen September 24th, 2005 10:55 PM

Re: Broken xbox

I can actually hear the solder that broke off rattling around in my XBox when I shake it. Also, disconnect the XBox and try to wiggle the power socket. If it's really loose, the solder's broken. But really, if your XBox is made before 04-08-2002 (the date mine was made) odds are it has a poorly contructed Foxlink 1.0 or 1.1 power supply.

www.xbox-scene.com has a whole bunch of info on this.

You are not going to get help asking like this.

To fix it you have 4 options:

1. send it to MS and they will fix it

2. save your money and buy an xbox 360

3. Buy a used xbox around christmas

4. live with it and stop gaming

Re: Broken xbox

I just finished fixing my XBox myself.

Open your XBox. You'll need a Torx 10 and a Torx 20 screwdriver bit. The outer screws are under the two silver stickers, and under each rubber foot. Use the Torx 20 for these. Then, flip it back over and take the case off.

Next, take out the hard drive. There's one Torx 10 screw on the left side, holding the HDD bracket in place. Remove the IDE cable from the hard drive and remove the whole assembly. Set it off to the side.

On the far right side, you'll see the power supply. It should say "Foxfire" on it. There are two Torx 10 screws holding this down. Then, lift out the power supply and look over by the plug end.

On mine, there were actually scorch marks on the solder. But yours may be just broken. Warm up your soldering iron and melt the solder back together. Use more solder if necessary.

Seal your XBox up and you're done.

ROFL, unless we see some promising games, the 360 will be a waste, the whole reputation thing sound like a croak and another way for companies to track you. as for the xbox needing service, try running the xbox with no cd. if it works a bit better then, than that tell you its a cd drive or tray problem, i would get the cd drive replaced in that situation. i wouldnt imagine anything else would "click" in the xbox other than the HDD. well, thats my 2 cents ne way.

Look at you, you bunch of children.

There are people in this thread who are starting to cross lines in terms of their attitude. I'm getting sick and tired of the flaming. Sort out your attitudes or you will find your time here very short lived indeed.

pkayer15, I don't think you understand the concept of a forum. Registering just to get our help then dissapearing forever is really just skipping the surface. Asside from these idiots here there is a good community here.

If you don't want to post any more then just log out and don't post. There is no such thing as locking acounts just because you don't want to be a part of this community.

Now thread closed. Stop flaming.
