Open your XBox. You'll need a Torx 10 and a Torx 20 screwdriver bit. The outer screws are under the two silver stickers, and under each rubber foot. Use the Torx 20 for these. Then, flip it back over and take the case off.
Next, take out the hard drive. There's one Torx 10 screw on the left side, holding the HDD bracket in place. Remove the IDE cable from the hard drive and remove the whole assembly. Set it off to the side.
On the far right side, you'll see the power supply. It should say "Foxfire" on it. There are two Torx 10 screws holding this down. Then, lift out the power supply and look over by the plug end.
On mine, there were actually scorch marks on the solder. But yours may be just broken. Warm up your soldering iron and melt the solder back together. Use more solder if necessary.
Seal your XBox up and you're done.
I've waited for this moment, all my life and more
And now I see so clearly what I could not see before
The time is now or never and this chance won't come again
Throw caution and myself into the wind

ROFL, unless we see some promising games, the 360 will be a waste, the whole reputation thing sound like a croak and another way for companies to track you. as for the xbox needing service, try running the xbox with no cd. if it works a bit better then, than that tell you its a cd drive or tray problem, i would get the cd drive replaced in that situation. i wouldnt imagine anything else would "click" in the xbox other than the HDD. well, thats my 2 cents ne way.
