MSN Messenger (Custom Emotions)

Right, on MSN Messenger (I believe it to be only version 7.0 of which this works with) – I am also using 7.0. But you have the custom emotions that you can add from a folder within you’re computer. This is good, yet all the emotions that I add (no matter there original size) shrink in size to you’re average MSN Emotion / Picture.

There are ways that you can add bigger images (and .gif images) to Messenger and the size of these does not shrink. How do you put these files on? How to you get it so that the images aren’t reset to the default size?

I know it can be done because people have these types of pictures (as do I, although the ones I have I simply copied from other people). Others may have copied them also, yet, this chain of events must have started off somewhere.

So, my question is, how do they work? How do you get these big pictures (and / or .gif) images to work? Is there a special program or what? (if so, where can I download it)?

Weird, I just added a bunch of emoticons. Most were GIFs, but one (a llama) didn't work correctly. I've seen people split up larger ones into smaller files to get them to work.

Get Messenger Plus and then download Stuffplug-NG. That will allow you to resize all images used in Messenger, as well as autosize smilies to make them fit properly in your convo window. Be advised though, if you send a smilie that was enlarged/shrunk by Stuffplug, the recipient(s) will also have to have Stuffplug installed for them to recieve the smilie correctly.

Then perhaps you can explain to me how i can receve them fine without stuffplug?

Issue with GIF images is they don't work properly if they have frame timings. Open them in Animation shop or whatnot and make sure they have nothing in the frame timing department.

That is true, yet that is not what i'm trying to figure out. That (i would think) is ok for still images. But thanks anyway!

You misunderstand me. I mean overly large images that are used as 'smilies'. For example, I have a couple of 200x200 smilies I like to use. The regular Messenger would normally tell me to sod off, but stuffplug removes this restriction, allowing me to send large smilies (over 150kb)

It also enlarges smilies that would normally turn out to be too small to use in messenger.

Now, whenever I send one of these smilies to a friend who does not have stuffplug, the image they recieve is apparently either 'cropped' to a quarter of its size. or just doesnt show up at all.

Messenger Plus is bigtime spyware and Adware.

Yep. But only if you dont pay attention.

When you install it, you are given the option to install the "Sponsor Program" *cough*Spyware*cough*, or to install without the sponsor program.

The option for this is listed on the License Agreement page of the installer, a very devious tactic since most of us skip reading the whole thing and click the button that is most likely to get all that nasty looking legal text out of our faces the quickest. Just pay attention on that page and you will be fine ;)

I did that and I still got a Trojan Virus!

Re: MSN Messenger (Custom Emotions)

I have it. I recently scanned myself with no less than 3 AV programs (Housecall, AVG, Norton AV) and there were no threats found. On a previous installation I had Plus running, and there were no problems there either.

Did you download it from the official site? If not, that's probably your problem.

I don't think this "Stuffplug" item is the one in question, it may very well be, but i don't have MSN Plus, nor do i have Stiffplug, yet i can recieve picture that are 4 times the size of you're stock MSN Emotion that others have sent me.

People with and without MSN Plus are able to send me these images... There has to be something else that someone knows...

You aren't talking about "winks" are you? These huge, annoying "smileys" that will take up the whole conversationb window and play an annoying sound. I don't think you can sent enlarged smileys using the emotion icons without the mentionded MSN plus (which rules!) and that plugin.

As FT said, no, we are not on about winks, and i agree that they are annoying, especially when you're doing something (nudges also get on my nerves from time to time), at least they did! (if you're status is on busy you don't get them - well you do, but you're screen doesn't shake).

As for 'their just smilies' True, but some use them more than others, and some can be used for jokes etc... I just want to know how to get them on without them going to the default size etc.. (and yes, you can do .gif's, just, again, they will default their size)!

No need, staff members can see the IP addresses of every poster in the forums they moderate, and search users in the ModCP.
