Knoppix ADSL Problems

ok..here it is

I have a Sagem F@st 800 ADSL modem that came with my broadband package, and I'd like to get it working with knoppix, as drivers for it are not included.

Now, I've downloaded Linux drivers for it from the Sagem website, but now I'm completely confused - How do I load the drivers into the kernel?

I'm a complete n00b at Linux in general, a little help please http://www.gamingforums.com/images/s.../confusedx.gif

Is it a USB or Ethernet modem?

Re: Knoppix ADSL Problems

Is Knoppix installed, or running "Live" off the CD?

It would be a little difficult to get USB devices to work on a Live CD, if they do not work to begin with.

It may not be able to find the USB port its connected to or it does not have a driver for a USB modem....... it be a lot esaier to install then config your kernel to find it and use it..

No, it can find the device - It just doesnt have drivers for it - it is listed as "Unknown device"

You can't install stuff using a Live CD in most cases. Install Knoppix to your hard drive with the full install version and it should work - Live CDs are usually just for demonstrating what the OS is like, and don't allow you to do anything major.

oh well, it was worth a shot. thanks for the input everyone.

@ Guardian-Archangel, Knoppix is a Debian-based variant of Linux http://www.gamingforums.com/images/smilies/winkx.gif http://www.gamingforums.com/images/smilies/smilie.gif

Sounds like your new to Linux. For a Wider variety of Linux, check out LinuxISO, and Distro Watch.

The Title of this thead was "Knoppix ADSL Problems". Knoppix Linux, and ADSL Internet Modem. ;)

SimplyMepis may work better, it is called the Easiest Debian Based distro, aside from Xandros 3.

Xandros is not entirely Debian Compatible. Mepis is very close. SimplyMepis is a LiveCD as well, so it and Knoppix have a lot in common. Except, I have heard more about Knoppix internet issues, than I have heard about SimplyMepis. Let me check and see if your ADSL modem is included with the 2.4.xx, or 2.6.x kernel (both on the same CD).

Ubantu also comes in a Live CD form, and looks very similar to Windows 2000. You can get delivered a free CD from their website, which unfortunately has been offline for a long time.

How long is a "long time", Reven? My dad ordered it about 3 weeks ago, and they said it'd be 4-6 weeks until delivery. Also, the default order size is 10 copies... we don't know that many people who'd be willing to use it.

What is Ubantu? Is that the same as Ubuntu, or a Win2K inspired variant?
