I heard a company from Korea called K'onsue has just made a powersupply with 1,700 watts... the msrp will only be like $100 he said and it will work with all current ATX casses and most mobos. The guy who told me this (he said he worked for the a Chinese division of the company) said that it should hit retail within 6 to 12 months... as long as there are no hitches that the USA will see it VERY soon...
hopefully this guy was not pulling my leg, but he sounded really cool and I hope this will come true Very soon.
Fingers crossed???? any thoughts... do you think this is possible????

1,700 Watts for only $100? Hmmm, that sounds odd to me.....
Either way, why the hell would you need that much power?

Sounds cheap and you will never need that much power unless you plan on running subs and pre amps in your case.

...and an SLI rig.
What is the point when 400-500W is plenty enough?

Hey, I will get one just to brag about it. My PSU has twice the power of an alienware!
Is it good quality though?

What's the power correction factor? How's the efficiency graph look?
Considering that most top-end systems (running SLI with inordinate amount of 10 or 15k drives in RAID arrays, etc) may flirt with consumption levels of about 400W, there is absolutely no point in buying a 1700W PSU unless you've got an 8-way SPARC box sitting behind you.

500W is just fine for me. Plenty to last for the years to come. Maybe all the lights on a person's computer will be too bright to bear when this PSU is installed.

Im running an overclocked 6800GT, a 3500+, a gig of Corsair XMS, about 9 fans, and a WD 36.7 GB raptor off of a proprietary Shuttle (very crappy) 350 watt power supply, and I have never had any power consuption problems.
1700 watts is crazy overkill, unless your running a water cooled, quad xeon system with a 6800Ultra (uses more power than a 7800GTX), about 16GB's of RAM, 15 or so 15K rpm SCSI hard drives, and as many CD drives as the case will fit. Then, I can see the system hitting 600 watts max (the quad xeons alone use close to 400).
