FIRST 7800GTX review hits web!

looky here... i found this review of the NEW 7800GTX!!!

its about 40% faster than the 6800ultra

the page is a transulation, but the scores are still readable

http://translate.google.com/translat...language_tools

SWEET!!!! Definately selling my 6800GT soon and getting a 7800GT atleast.

Re: FIRST 7800GTX review hits web!

honestly... it would be cheaper for you to buy a second 6800gt and run in SLI... the tests show that a SLI 6800 beats a single 7800 in most games. think about it, pay $200 (the price of a 6800 after the 7800 ships) for a second 6800 and you get the same speeds of a NEW 7800 that costs $500

This is the day for those who bought SLI to shine and save

Re: FIRST 7800GTX review hits web!

i dont know man... i think ATI will be late to the party this round. id bet that theyll launch a good 3 months after the 7800 hits stores

Re: FIRST 7800GTX review hits web!

Yeah, it doesn't seem to be that much better, and in their HL2 tests, the x800 beat it except for 1600x1200 resolution. I plan on getting the current leading cards cheaper, like you said, because I think its a waste to spend $400+ on a video card, especially when I dont have that much to spend ;).

Re: FIRST 7800GTX review hits web!

yeah... and by the time the X900 arrives, Nvidia will only be a few months away from releasing thier NEXT NEXT gen card... the 8800GTX

Re: FIRST 7800GTX review hits web!

well, the X900 could be better than what nvidia has for the 8800 ish cards....you never know

Re: FIRST 7800GTX review hits web!

boy... but that would mean the X900 would be like 9 months late, wouldnt it?

Yeah i agree, its a waste to buy a video card when they first come out at those prices, wait a few months and they go down in price alot. unless you have some need to have the bragging rights or have top of the line parts right away. the current gen of cards will probably last a long time as good card, my old FX5200 can play everything up to BFV perfectly (60+fps) on high settings so the current cards like the X800 and 6800 will last awhile.

i want to see how the X900 does before i even think about a 7800.

Re: FIRST 7800GTX review hits web!

Honestly, I think my 6800GT will be MORE than enough for atleast another 2 years. If not I can just keep overclocking it (i can get another 300MHz from the memory and another 100MHz from the core atleast). My 6800GT can handle almost any game at max settings and get atleast 50fps (max settings in HL2 at 1280x1024 is over 60fps without any overclocking). Anything beyond a 6800GT or an X800XL will just be a waste of money for atleast another year or so.

Re: FIRST 7800GTX review hits web!

It be better just to get an other 6800gt. After seeing those benchmarks i'm most likely going to get another 6800gf insted of a 7800gtx. Dual 6800gt's and ultra's out beat a single GTX and thats sad. Nvidia should of waited a little longer to make a card that can out beat a dual 6800gt or ultra then it be worth buying.

Re: FIRST 7800GTX review hits web!

Humm.. Thats not an excessively impressive upgrade from current gen cards. While there was an almost 200% increase in performance between, say, the FX5950 Ultra and the GeForce 6800 Ultra, the difference between a 6800 ULTRA and a 7800 are much smaller.

However, we will have to see what ATI will offer us next :nodding:.

Re: FIRST 7800GTX review hits web!

300mhz OC??? 100mhz OC???? Are you using vapochill or just dry ice... those are insane overclocks for a 6800gt, your gonna brun it to a crisp. and then youll HAVE TO buy a 7800 lol

Well, the 7800 is now for sale on newegg, zipzoomfly, and tigerdirect.

Its not immpossible. I oc'd my 9600XT to 800mhz core and 500mhz memory for about 5 min, then the artefacts showed up and the screen went black and i got alot of errors http://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/pleased.gif. Not doing that again.

You mean it survived? OMG I gotta do more testing with my 9600Pro... So far I've only dared to up the core by 35mhx and mem by 20

Re: FIRST 7800GTX review hits web!

it sure did. i took it down to 550 and 330 (original, 500mhz and 300mhz) and might do some more experimenting when i buy a new psu and fan for the card. http://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/pleased.gif

I did get some direct3d errors though, and the screen filled with artefacts and shortly after went black. http://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/smilie.gif

But what really scared me was i left it to oc (ati tool) and i didnt know how long it was at 800 and 500, because i returned (from training which went for an hour) and the screen was black, so i had no idea how long it was liek that for. :uhm: i am very suprised i didnt cook it.

Re: FIRST 7800GTX review hits web!

A 100MHz core overclock and a 300MHz memory overclock really isnt that impressive. With stock cooling i got it to 434/1180 (increase of 84/180) with only a few degree increase in load temps, and a 1 degree increase in idle temps. If you got a good water cooling system and the waterblock I linked to below, you could DEFINATELY get more than 100MHz out of the core, and probably just barely get 300MHz from the memory.

This waterblock is incredible.

well their are some 6800gt's in the $280 range now. I think if it is still getting beat by SLi 6800's then it is now worth it. But, Sell it and fanboys will buy

100 core and 300 memoryhttp://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/eekx.gif. I can't even get mine over 370/1000(stock)
