The AMD FX-57 will be released in two weeks. It's clocked at 2800MHz (no surprise there), but it turns out that it's not that hard to break the barrier of the magical 3000 MHz. This CPU will overclock even more than that cooled with normal air cooling.

You can imagine how high you might set this one at Asetek VapoChill -40 cooling units. It will definitely break records. Expect to be seeing overclocking benchmarks from hardware testing websites by July.

Unless you're into some seriously processor intensive stuff (and I'm not talking about gaming), you won't take full advantage of the power of an FX-53 for a long time to come, much less an FX-55. The biggest performance bottleneck of computers at the moment are the graphics cards; we have excess processing power, and not enough graphics power.

Unless it's just a prestige thing (like I bought one when they were new just so that I could say I had a top-of-the-range computer, if only for a month...), you're better off waiting for the release of the FX-57 and then buying an FX-55 when the price comes down.

And if it is a prestige thing, you'll probably want to look into dual-core processors instead.

Yeah I am waiting for the FX-57 chip now. Since it will on;y be a few dollars more than the 55 anyway. I must have it :)
This is strictly for my gaming PC so I do not need duel core CPU.
I plan on loading this new rig with 2 - 6800 Ultras (if thats possible) and 2 gigs of RAM.

I have a 6800gt and a 2.4ghz processor, the processor is limiting me in games, espically Source games. You can't have enough processing power.

Don't waste you money on 6800 ultras, gt's are just as fast for $100 less. Also, SLi only gives about a %40 bump in speed.

If that's an Intel processor I wouldn't be surprised -- it'll be quite old by now, I would have thought. I was talking about newer processors. If it's an AMD processor, then it's not your processor that's causing the problem; you have something else wrong.

The Source engine ran fine on my old computer, which had a 2400+ Athlon XP in it.

Our problem here is that a "standardized" test hasn't been adopted to see what "plays good" or "runs fine." What may look good to Person #1 may not look good to Person #2. That said, I'll probably go into shock leaving my Dell 4550 P4 2.0 and FX5200 combo, for an Athlon 64 3700+ and X850XT combo. *stops drooling* The problem with that is that I'll have to learn how to shoot real time, not shoot 3 seconds in front of someone. :lol:

I could have waited for the price of the 4000+ to come down or spent less in another area in order to get an FX chip, but the 3700 will be just fine for me.http://forums.filefront.com/images/smilies/pleased.gif BeeF, I would suggest waiting if you want the newest and greatest CPU. I don't know how much the FX-57 will retail for, but the 55 (IIRC) is still in the 800'ish range. IMHO if you're going to spend 800, why not just spend 1000 ...

If you do want to save money then get a FX55 when the FX57 comes out. Only difference is speed, 2.6-2.8. Only 200mhz faster. Thats really not a big speed change. Get a FX53 wouldnt be a bad idea ethier. Its at 2.4ghz and its only a 400mhz speed change with the FX57 and 200mhz with FX55. Really not a big change at all. FX53 and above will last you a very long time. FX53 would last probely till 2007. Thats if dual cores do not make a big impacted on software.
