Default iTunes Upgrade

If i upgrade to iTunes 4.8, will my music libary be deleted and will i need to rebuild it or will everything stay the same with the new features. Please do not answer if you are posistive because some of the CDs i lost and i listen to them every day on iTunes. If that music is deleted, i have no way of getting it back except for buying it again. Anyone know?

Nothing SHOULD be deleted by iTunes.

iTunes is just the music player, none of the music files are actually stored in the same folder as the player. The songs are in their own folder, on my computer it is a subfolder of "My Music" within "My Documents" labled "iTunes". It is perfectly safe to upgrade, or even uninstall iTunes completely without harming any of your music files. To make things even better, there is also a file named "iTunes Music Library" in that folder which iTunes will detect which contains the full list of your collection and all the "info" on your songs that shows up when you right click a song and select "get info". This file is also saved when you uninstall iTunes (although, if I remember correctly, you are given the option to delete this file when you uninstall).

It'd be pretty useless if any upgrades to make the thing better end up deleting all your music. I'm guessing Apple have thought about that before hand and made sure it doesn't.

Anyway even if it did, you can just download all the songs you had again anyway, can't you? You've already paid for them...

Not that I know of, but I keep all my music backed up on DVD+RW so it's not an issue really.

Also, something I learned once, if you do lose all your music but have it all on your iPod, Apple officially says you are screwed. The iPod was made so you can transfer music from your computer to the player, but not vice versa in order to prevent file sharing. What you can do in this situation though, is make sure there are absolutly no iPod drivers on your computer, and iTunes is uninstalled, and plug your iPod into your computer. Windows will recognize it as an external hard drive, but the music files are all in hidden folders. Select to view hidden folders and the "settings" folder appears. Inside this folder there is a folder labled "music" and all your music is inside a series of folders labled F00-FXX within that hidden music folder.

I thought Apple were making iPods that allowed filesharing... they wouldn't be if they are against it so much to take measures against you putting music on your computer.
