Motherboard BIOS
I have a Abit BX6 Rev. 2 motherboard in the PC I had built back in April. Abit has released several BIOS updates for this motherboard on their website. I've never updated a motherboard BIOS before and was wondering if there is anything special I need to do (i.e. be in MSDOS when I run the program, etc.) Any help would be greatly appreciated. MAC |
Abit has straight forward instruction for upgrading your bios. You can get to the instructions from the bios download page. Basicly what they have you do is to create a boot disk, copy the update script and .exe to the boot disk, reboot the computer with the boot disk, and run the script. Fairly painless operation these days; not like in the past. Mike "PawSable" Richardson |
If it ain't broke don't fix it. |
How true, but by upgrading the BIOS on my Abit BX6 Rev 2, I can replace my Celeron 400 with a P-III 600. MAC |
Only reason he had said the "if it ain't broke" thing is because flashing your BIOS is a somewhat risky thing to do depending on the circustance. If you know what you're doing...cool...otherwise you're playing with flamethrowers. BUt as was stated above..Abit's got a great walkthrough on flashing the BIOS..just make *sure* you do it step by step (don't think "Aw, this is easy" and then wing it) Screwing up the BIOS is a bad bad thing so just follow the map and you'll be cool. ex out |
Ex, I agree 100% with you. When I first went to the Abit site, I didn't see the instructions for flashing the BIOS. Now after copying them and reading them over, it's way out of my league. Guess, I'll have to find someone who knows how to do it when and if the time comes to upgrade my PC. Thanks for the info everyone. MAC |
