your parents probably have something enabled that blocks images.

Re: really n00b question but..

Are you talking about viewing files on the internet, or trying to upload images on your post? Be more specific (not trying to be sarcastic or anything, but it helps to be more specific so that I or someone else can help you with your problem).

Your question is ok and people have this problem for a variety of reasons, and some of these reasons or causes can be tough to solve.

Remember that the only stupid question is the one that you do not ask (the chairman of the Physics and Astronomy Department taught me that or said it to me, and it is true).

Anyway, where and when are you getting the red x's in the boxes?

This problem seems to be affecting all of the FN sites from what I just noticed. It should be resoved soon though. I would just be patient.

also check that you didn't accidentally disable images in your browser (check tools and options.) this is an old setting that was useful to those with slow modems to view sites and it sounds like you may have checked it off. (if this problem is with all web sites that is)

hope that helps

[edit] there is no such thing as a noobish or stupid question. only a noobish or supid reluctance to gain enlightenment.

What webrowser are you using, and what kind of internet connection do you use?

It really could be fault of you browser, your ISP (Internet Service Provider) server, your connection (even if you have broadband, you can still have a bad connection), or the website server's fault, or the website creator's fault as they may have made an erronous webpage.

In the case of the browser problem, It can be plugins or just the browser you are using that is causing the problem. If I know what browser you are using, I might be able to help you more in solving this problem or refer you to someone who can solve this problem.

If it is your connection, you should get your parents to call your ISP about this problem so they can fix it. If they don't fix it the first time you call and you still have problems, continue calling them so that they know there is a problem with your connection and that it needs to be fixed, but don't be impatient as it may take time for the ISP to solve your problem, and there could a more general problem with the ISP's servers that is causing your problems.

Also, is it just pictures, or it movies or animations alone, or is it just random images and videos that do not come up?

Announcement

To ensure the fastest possible speeds for our customers and users, we are switching service providers. Because of this, the download servers will be offline on Monday and possibly eary Tuesday while everything is setup and the new ip address's are propagated around the dns servers so you can access them once again.

This should only have a bearing on the download servers, however there may be certain areas elsewhere that are affected. I ask that you have patience with us and allow us to get this resolved as quickly as possible.

Again, I thank everyone for their patience and hope that you continue to use FileFront for your downloading needs.

Thanks!

Some info hope it helps:

1.some sigs such as sir paul's in the file front forums are blocked

2. im using broadband

3. i dont know whant you mean "browser" but im using internet explorer

Re: really n00b question but..

A browser is what you use to access the internet. Internet Explorer is an example of a browser. You mentioned that this problem occurs outside of webpages that are not affiliated with filefront in anyway, right? I am just wondering.

What sites do you go on that have this problem. I will go to those sites and see if I encounter the same problem.

Also, I use a browser that is different than Internet Explorer. It is called Firefox. Many forum members that I know here use Firefox. It is a pretty good and fast browser, though not all websites are friendly to it, but on the other hand it seems to work better than Internet Explorer. Download it and visit those sites and see if those images will load (get your parents' permission first, though, if it is their computer. Otherwise, it should be easy to download and install).

You can download the browser from this website. Again, if this is your parents computer, get their permission before downloading and installing it. (Do not worry, it is free and there is nothing derogatory with it).

http://www.mozilla.org/

I may use Internet Explorer and see if I get the same problems with the websites you give me, and I will access them with Firefox and see if I get those same errors. Usually, things will work on Firefox that do not work with Internet Explorer, and vice-versa. As a web browser, I would recommend Firefox, though I would not ditch Internet Explorer entirely.

Hope this helps. If you get permission to get Firefox and need help installing it, PM or IM me and I can help you as best as I can, or I can direct you to someone who can help you.

ok i get what a "browser" is now and i have firefox but one more thing about fire fox: i cant seem to get and sound when i know there is sapposed to be sound i looked in options but i couldnt find anything so any ideas? o and it was stilll blocking images on sites that had nothing to do with filefront.

Re: really n00b question but..

I'll mess with the setting on my Firefox later and see what happens. Maybe then I can get a better idea on the problem might be and hopefully fix it.

Another question, though, does Internet Explorer or Firefox have a bar that shows up when you visit these websites stating that either this page tried to download and install plugins into your browsers or that plugins are needed in order to view content on that webpage? If so, this may be a problem with those plugins, or that you just don't have them and your browsers need them in order for those pictures to appear and the video and sound clips you say that are messed up to run correctly.

Examples of plugins, or at least what I am referring to, are Java, Flash, Shockwave, and Quicktime.

If this is your problem, I can help you learn how to install these plugins or tell you how without putting too much spyware and unwanted programs on your computer and not mess your computer up. If you know what to look for, check and see if you have the plugins to view the content you are trying to view.
