Default Intersting thoughts on WinXP X64

Some musings on X64, courtesy of Sander Sassen at Hardware Analysis: http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/article/1795/

Those of you considering upgrading right away would be wise to read it.

But there’s more, Microsoft has also put into place an upgrade program for current users of 32-bit Windows XP. Unfortunately this upgrade program is only valid for PCs that came shipped with Windows XP preinstalled so most enthusiasts are out of luck.
Oh great... That makes me out to be a fool. Then again, an OS is only as good as the drivers...

Quote:
But matters get worse; by applying for this upgrade your current product key for your copy of 32-bit Windows XP will become void, so you can’t go back after you’ve installed Windows XP 64-bit, as your product key will not work anymore when you register with Microsoft.
After that, I may double check it, but I do think I will start recommending against XP64 as well. Atleast for the time being.

No Support for drivers, no support from most PC resalers after you install XP, no Microsoft voids your original WinXP install. So to go back, you have to buy a new copy.

As Sander Sassen wrote, its a virtual minefield.

You know where I'll be...

Why bother upgrading to X64 anyways? All it does for now is make desktop windows open faster and card games play slightly quicker.

Big thanks goes to Fragger for the Sig and Avatar.

Hi All,

That's about the most ridiculous product policy I've ever read. Kind of like turning over your keys to a vehicle you know and love to buy a vehicle that you've never had a chance to even test drive.

This junk-yard-dog is sticking with XP32bit especially as I've just built a new system and have no intention of messing it up despite having a 64 bit processor. XP64 bit and Billy G. for his meglomaniac attitude toward customer policies
