Default NT 4 questions for ya FP

1) the slider that adjusts brightness in Q3demo is not available in NT4 and man is it dark in shadows. I tried bumping up r_intensity to 1.25, but when I tried to adjust the gamma it was also at 1.25 (are they somehow linked?) anyway is there a good FREE third party program to allow tweaking options in NT4 (I know powerstrip will work but it is shareware). BTW none of the advanced tabs governing video are found in NT4 with my Geforce. Is there any way to get that sort of thing to appear?

2) I have read that if you want to adjust ps2rate in NT4 you have to go back to the default PS2 mouse drivers instead of intellimouse. Is there ANY way to keep the wheel functionality and smooth out my mouse (I am so used to a sampling rate of 100 Hz)

Can't help you with the first part - I have a V2 running on my NT machine and the brightness and gamma work fine. I'm not aware of any NT specific image brightening tweaks. You might want to check out the NVidia sites like riva3d.com or rivazone.com

In NT the PS/2 mouse refreshes at 60 Hz which is usually fast enough to avoid mouse jitter if you have your fps capped at 60 (cl_maxfps 61). I
play on a P2-350 with V2/SLI under NT using a PS/2 Intellimouse with the Intellimouse driver and have no mouse jitter problems - and it seems just as smooth as my USB Intellimouse at home.

As far as I know, you can't adjust the refresh rate of the PS/2 mouse in NT and PS/2Rate doesn't work under NT, unless a new version came out I'm not aware of.

Thanks for the reply FP. I think that my problem may not be mouse jitters but instead swap file resizing. I have in fact noticed the same thing a bit on the Win98 partition. Maybe I didn't notice it before because I had a permanent swap file and I haven't done that yet w/ NT or my fresh 98 install.

Phasteus,

You can use powerstrip to adjust the PS/2 rate of your mouse in NT. I have mine set to 100hz without any problems. I know it's shareware, but ever heard of Astalavista?

1) I have the same problem, and power strip is the only thirdparty program I have heard of that you can use. However, you can just raise the gamma (and not the intensity) and use vid_restart. this works for me.

2) You can change the refresh rate of any ps2 mouse in windows nt. Just add/change the following registry string
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\i8042 prt\parameters\technical\PS2ReportRate "200"

(use regedit from the run prompt to get there)

The i8042prt might be different depending on what mouse drivers you are using (im not sure). To find out what yours is, go to Start->Run and type winmsd. then click on the resources tab, and look for it on IRQ 12.
so add or change that key, and set it to 200, then reboot. If this doesnt work for you, I have a zip file somewhere with an old version of ps2rate for nt4 that works, just let me know. b
