I was just reading a few articles, and I came accross something.

I've noticed that there is a high pitch wine coming out of a few older monitors I've used. Several people I've talked about, can't seem to hear it. The article indicated that MOST couldn't hear it.

I usually hear it coming out of the living room television, and it drives me bonkers.

How many here have experienced this?

I'm not going to vote because the only time I've heard a high pitched whine was from my dad's Apple II monitor. My computer teacher's Apple II made that noise aswell.

We only have 1 CRT monitor in the house that is about 5 years old. The rest are LCD.

I hear those noises mostly from TVs, like my Sony (10 years old) TV and I hate it badly especially when the TV is on Mute. Unlike my Samsung CRT monitor, I never heard its noise yet, although it is only a 4 years old monitor.

Infact, my case is a little different.

I got a new comp00ta, runs like a dream (this is about 6 months ago btw) and a new CRT monitor with it.

When I used it for long periods of time, and switched the PC off, it would "whine" as you say, but only if it was on standby, so i had to switch the monitor off too.

There was also some shitty blurring effect on my "new" monitor too after long periods of use. So ive gone back to my OLD (3 years?) 17" CRT, which doesnt blur, whine, and the colour is great for such an old piece of Hardware.

I can hear a high pitched whine coming from all CRT monitors, not just old ones. But then, I can also hear a high pitched whine from TVs and those big strip lights and neon lights, so I might not be the best person to ask.

I have four old 15" MicroScan 4v ADI, they all made that sound when in use (dont use'em anymore). TVs get it too. Have no idea what it is but its extremly annoying.

I never had any "whining" with any CRT based Tv/monitor I have used, even a 17 year old TV. I would bet I would be from the eletron guns in the back fo the TV that are going out.
