PCI-X compatability If I have a mobo with a number of PCI-X 64bit slots (either 100 or 133 MHz) can I put in standard PCI boards, or are they restricted to only PCI-X 64bit boards. For example would an Audigy 2 Card go in one of these slots. Thanks guys, |
Re: PCI-X compatability I think so, they would not make a new type of socket if there is no cards that use it:p I think pci-x is normal PCI |
Re: PCI-X compatability I thought PCI-X was the same as PCI-E... :clueless: |
Re: PCI-X compatability PCI-X != PCIe. PCI-X is the "PCI-Extended" standard. They're white (just like any other PCI slot), but about twice as long. They're 64-bit, but the card in them need not be. 64-bit PCI clock speed is 33MHz. PCI-X clock speeds are: 66MHz, 100MHz, 133MHz, 266MHz, and 533MHz. Yes, standard-length 32-bit PCI cards will run in them, if they're designed to operate at the proper voltage: the 64-bit/33MHz PCI slot operates at +5V. All PCI-X slots operate at +3.3V. Fortunately, all slots are keyed such that you can't screw it up: if the card fits, it should work fine. |
Re: PCI-X compatability Great, time to check manufacturers specs and I should be ok. Thanks all. |
