6545 reasons not to get Firefox

I'm not trying to start an argument here, or get anyone mad at me. Im just sticking up for my loyal browser, IE 6.0.

I believe someone started a topic like this against IE awhile back that contained a list of 24 unpatched bugs. So here it is... a list of 6545 things wrong with firefox.

Definetly more, if you are sticking to IE after at least trying out Opera or Fire Fox then there's something wrong with you. For the people that say they all suck and have never used Fire Fox then you are just a child of the Microsoft Monopoly.

Yes, my sister uses it.

and I'm not saying that all of the other browsers out there suck... I'm just trying to make a point. They're not perfect.

Re: 6545 reasons not to get Firefox

We know so many things about Firefox because it's open source and people are actually able to find bugs. More importantly, they feel they will be listened to if they reveal them. Would you want to bother trying to report a bug to Microsoft if you found one?

With Firefox it's easier to find bugs and it's easier to report them. And they get fixed.

I used I.E., I hate I.E.

I use Firefox and I love it. Some bugs are nothing for me to worry about so long as I see it working as I feel it should.

They are both free, I use both, they both work good.
IE will not work for me on some things, Fire will.
Fire will not work for me on some things, IE will.
It's all good.

Three flaws concerning the way Internet Explorer renders web pages were discovered by various US computer security researchers. Any of these could be used to break into a target PC through a specially crafted web page.

On 21 December 2004, several months after discovering one of the flaws, an independent US computer security team called GreyHats Security Group published code showing exactly how to use the flaw to hijack a computer.

Microsoft has yet to release a software fix for any of the problems and US computer security firm Secunia raised its threat assessment for all three flaws to the most severe on Friday...

A statement posted to GreyHats Security Group's website defends the decision to post the example code online, on the grounds that Microsoft was alerted to the problem in October 2004.

"Think of how irresponsible it was of Microsoft to not patch these vulnerabilities during the several months that they were known," says a statement from GreyHats. "It would have been easy to fix some of the core vulnerabilities."

Re: 6545 reasons not to get Firefox

I actually now use both Firefox and IE, for different purposes. Firefox is my default browser, but I'll use IE for certain activities that Firefox would create too much of a hassle with. For example, I check email using IE still because it automatically pops up when I want to access my inbox from MSN messenger. Also, IE has some features or plugins that make it easier or possible to view specific media on the web, such as MSN video (once again, the monopoly factor :p ).

Re: 6545 reasons not to get Firefox

Basically you have to use IE on MSN services because they detect other browsers and misbehave :deal:

Exactly, and it's not enough of an inconvenience for me to oppose it.

You cannot make a valid argument against Firefox, IE is worse.

And you cannot make a valid argument against IE. I have used it for as long as I can remember and never recieved a single error, and never been hacked (atleast, not in anyway that was even noticable).

I've used both and found that Firefox works much better and has that kick arse tab thing, i love it alot better than the new window in IE.

Then you haven't used it as much or as extensively as you claim. I've had IE killed numerous times. Only unlike FF crashes, IE takes Explorer.exe with it.

That's the worst kind.

What Firefox is: open source.
What IE is: closed source.
The difference: Only M$ can patch up IE. Anyone who's ever done any serious programming can tell you that fixing one bug often introduces another. Unlike the FOSS community, which enjoys the talent of literally hundred of thousands (perhaps millions) of programmers worldwide, M$ only has so many people in it's employ, and they can only write so much code in a day. On a related vein, FOSS programs experience a much more violent evolution than anything proprietary could ever hope to: good pieces of programming are quickly copied, propogated and built upon. The bad ones are severely crushed in short order.

You may be able to list 6545 reasons not to use Firefox. I'm quite certain that, in the time it took to compile your reason, one could just as easily compile a list of problems in IE tenfold that.

That is a valid reason for not using IE. You never know you've been hacked, untill its too late. Atleast Firefox crashes when it gets hacked. :D

Also, I turned off DrWatson, and turned on Bugzilla. What does that tell you. (If you even know what either of them are).

Internet Explorer is useless to me, if I want to browse MSN, or Microsoft.com, I use Opera, and use its Disquise as IE feature.

At MSN Hotmail, and everywhere else, I use Firefox, I CAN'T TELL YOU ENOUGH, just how good it is to browse Hotmail it either windows or tabs. To be able to open a Hotmail message in a new window, is so usefull.

Not even the mighty Konquerer web broswer can do that.

Re: 6545 reasons not to get Firefox

i havnt read all them problems with firefox, but i guess that about two thirds are not worth talking about and most of the other third or nothing series either
but IE has more serious exploits and so called 'back doors' which hackers can just stroll through

and as for IE and MSN with both being microsoft then its just like nVidia or ATi paying EA games to make really high spec games so people will upgrade graphics cards
its always happening

Re: 6545 reasons not to get Firefox

Firefox is more secure cuz there havent been created that much Spyware etc. If I surf 1 night with IE and I run my ad-aware full scan I find various spywares... Mostly IsT and Claria DyFuCa and such but with Firefox there isnt even 1 detected only browser cookies but they are needed in order to have a fast browser...

I have Ad-Aware se™ PRO

Re: 6545 reasons not to get Firefox

i use both but i think as the popularity of firefox increases to a sizable portion , there will be spyware created for it , its just a matter of time

No cookies aren't needed for a fast browser. What they do is track what sites you visit most, so a company can better support your needs and interests.

Some people don't like the idea of a website knowing what sites they've been to. For the most part I'm okay with it I keep and eye for seriously intrusive cookies, but most I just leave alone.

The Cache is what is needed to speed up a browser, it saves a copy of the website on your computer. It allows it to be updated faster.

Internet Explorer. Your still plauged by security issues with IE.

Opera is the best quality, but I prefer the customizability of Mozilla based browsers.

Re: 6545 reasons not to get Firefox

IE is old and out of shape. The only time I use IE is whenever I am testing a website. I check it to make sure it's compatible in IE and FF. Fire Fox though, has proven time and time again to out match IE and out perform IE in many cases. All browser's have bugs, but the main reason I found and use FF was due to constant issues with IE. Someone recommended Fire Fox and I have since made it my default browser. I like IE, but it's old and Fire Fox give's me more bang for my buck! (more useful for me in other words- I know there both free).
