ad-aware i recently downloaded a spyware program called ad-aware. my aol spyware program found no spyware at all. ad-aware found 91. do u guys like that program? is aol spyware program that bad? |
Re: ad-aware it's AOL, what do you expect? Unfortuneatly they hype their stuff and it doesn't work. |
Re: ad-aware Yes we like Ad-Ware, and yes AOL's program is really that bad. Try their (AOL) Anti-Virus.     I recommend these free programs. AVG 7 Free AVG is NEVER wrong, though, while most others may detect a Virus when there isn't one. Spybot Search & Destroy. Another usefull tool, the BEST, check the Tech Downloads thread.. ZoneAlarm. This prevents hackers from getting into your computer while its plugged into the internet cable. Norton Internet Security comes with its own version of these apps, and is a Very good software bundle. ZoneAlarm comes with a decent Anti-Virus, but I wouldn't recommend using it alone. Several other AntiVirus utilities are recommended to be used at the same time, as one ot two viruses may not be detectable by one program. |
Re: ad-aware Microsoft's new AntiSpyware isn't too shabby. |
Re: ad-aware For spyware I also use Webroot Spy Sweeper. I believe you might have to purchase a license though if they changed the rules for their trial version. |
Re: ad-aware AOL sucks... therefore anything with AOL in it, most likely sucks too.... and their "spyware"-"removal" and their "virus" "protection"... ad-aware and spybot are the best man.... i found 734 things on my moms computer with ad-aware alone...... |
Re: ad-aware adaware is a very good spyware remover , microsoft released anti spyware ? gotta try it |
Re: ad-aware if you want no adware just get your whole hard disk wiped and just save files on a disk |
Re: ad-aware SpyBot S&D is very good for dealing with spyware and adware. |
Re: ad-aware Yer, i just did a reinstall on my pc, and after just the basics(drivers, office, norton systemworks and firewall, all related updates) SpyBot found like 30 things, it does work really well! |
Re: ad-aware well i dont know how to swipe my hard drive or put it on a disk really.... |

First you need to backup all your files. The registry, all your games saves. Your my documents folder, and anything important. The person who has the Admin access should do this, as the other users will have stuff to be backed up. Then wiping your Hard Drive means to Format it. Wipe it clean. Booting up from another computer, or from the WinXP install disk, and running the format utility. |
Re: ad-aware Ad-Aware is a must in my book along with spybot, however i never find anything on spybot after using ad-aware but better to be safe than sorry. Also would recomend spyware guard and spyware blaster(both free).Check out download .com for these along with good and bad reviews for any software there. |
Re: ad-aware Yea i like ad-aware SE, its very retard proof and has many options, i run it like twice a week and i love it. |
Re: ad-aware M$ bought GIANT AntiSpyware. I'd used GIANT's product, and it worked quite well. As yet, the only thing M$ has done is tack their name onto the GUI. Registry entries still bear GIANT's name. So I may yet still use it on the Windows boxen. Ad-Aware is excellent. Use it. Spybot S&D is excellent. Use it. SpySweeper might've been good, I'm not sure. Didn't feel like paying for it after the trial came up. I use NAV Corporate for virus control, with occassional forays to TrendMicro's Housecall if necessary. |
Re: ad-aware AOL is the biggest scam ever. They brag about their little "free virus protection" and such, but it's insanely under par. The best programs you can use are Ad-Aware SE and SpyBot Search and Destroy. I use both and nothing gets beyond their combonation of killer strength  |
Re: ad-aware Quote:
From what I've seen, the average user didn't think they needed protection. Now they think that with AOL they are invunerable to Viruses, and Ad-Ware, untill they get 1 or 100... |
Re: ad-aware The really sad part is that even once someone's gotten their boxen infected with dozens (yes, dozens) of viruses and hundreds of pieces of spyware... they still swear that they couldn't possibly be infected with anything, most often because they "have McAfee installed!" Nevermind that the answer is usually a blank stare or flat-out "You have to run it?" when queried if they ever scanned. |
Re: ad-aware ad-aware pwns all...and get "Spyware Blaster" to....it stops them from getting there in the first place...most of the time |
Re: ad-aware PestPatrol works even better but you have to pay for it. |

Re: ad-aware It IS Giant. So far anyway, hopfully it will still be in the furture. It is very good, Spybot is made by one person anyway (according to the ReadMe). C38368, yeah I've heard a lot of people talk like that. Especially when I was 12, they refused to believe a 12 year old kid knew anything more than them about their computer. |
