graphic card help please
 

i don't understand whats going on? i installed my x800 pro all the drivers and i'm not getting the fps that i thought this card would pump out. i used umark for unreal2k4 with 16 bots and get this.....average fps 38, max fps 86. i'm sure this card can do a hell of alot more than that.

it's funny cause i had just tried the 9800 pro and i got the same frames per second before it and i thought the card was defective so i upgraded to the x800. a friend of mine said its my computer but i used pc doctor and everythings running fine.

heres my specs- hp pavilion a620n amd athlon 3200+2.2 ghz,1 gig of ram, x800 radeon pro.

a friend also told me it could be the power supply.but how would that mess with fps.

any advice would be welcome. i've taking the cards to the computer techs and paid 44 dollars for nothing to be done because they couldn't figure it out. i've stumped everyone.

i called hp and they got no clue. its like my radeon x800 is working its just not getting any horsepower.

please i ask anyone for help

Try posting a rundown of the settings you are using. Both ingame and the ATI control panel settings. I don't have Unreal so a summary of the available ingame graphics settings would be helpful. A lot of times a problem like this is just a matter of having the settings compliment each other better.

unreal is on all the highest settings, and the x800 is being run by application preference.
but i just got of the phone and my friend said it must be my power supply because he said if its not high enough it will starve your system and slow it down.

computers are quite the bit#h.

Well, what kind of power supply output do you have? Also, did you hook up the power connector to the video card?

i sure its 120 v or 115 v. but theres a switch on the back of the power supply to make it go to 230 v. but when i switched it over it, the computer won't turn on so i switched it back to the 120v. the x800 takes a 300w i think.

dont mess with the voltage, my friend switched the voltage from 230v to 115v in school, while the computer was on and while it was getting 230v from the cable and boom, he went temporarely deaf and i was looking at it at the time and that flash was damn bright, cudnt see great for about 2hrs afterwards. well how many WATTS do u have in ur PSU, this will be something like 300w, 400w, 420w, 500w... like that

your chatting with the dumb of the dumb. whats a psu? and where would you find those settings at? i'm new to the pc world, i'm an ex imac user. pcs were the way to go.

^lol if you ask for help you can't be concidred "dumb"

it the unit that you plug your 120v wall outlet into the comp. There is convert the power from AC(alernating current) to Dc(dirrect current) and i think boosts the power.

Your PSU's(power supply) enegry is measured in watts. the more watts the better for powering graphics cards. You may have a PSU at or under 300watts.

see if you can get info on your comp's PSU.

Power Supply Unit, its the the watts not volts, but since u have a pre built and dont know much about PCs, tech wise, its hard to find out. ATi cards recommend at least 300watts for normal use, so if u have like under that, that might be the problem

i'm opening up the beast to see what the watts or volts are on the power supply. but i'm sure you guys are all right when it comes to the computer stuff. it must be the power supply.

alright its about 250 watts and ati recommends a 300 watt power supply or greater to ensure normal system operation.

dam....300 watt power supplys are 80 bucks. the x800 left me alittle poor. thank god christmas is in a few weeks.

Do yourself a favor. Don't buy the bare minimum 300 Watts. Buy a 400 or like Pethegreat says the 480 can be had for really cheap. I got my Thermaltake 480W for $70 US.
