well i've installed sp2 on 3 pc's ,only one has given any problem but that is only the shortcuts on the desktop are permanently highlighted and the network cable has to be plugged in or i cannot access the network or internet(this is a laptop so it isnt always connected my other pc is). i dont use the built in firewall as i hear that it only blocks unauthorized incomimg traffic and not outgoing traffic so certain programs such as spyware can still access the internet. most problems i have heard of involve older programs not being recognised but an update,if available should sort that out.i would check the program developers site or microsoft's site for info about probems

Well SP2 is fine for me, the only problem I have is only sometimes games will crash with an unknown error, but I don't know if that is related to SP2 or some other problem. I'd say get it.

I hear the same...

But the real question is, do you need it. If you already have a hardware firewall then chances are you'll do fine without it. If your computer is running fine at the moment, it's not neccesary.

Re: To get or Not to get? That is the question

yeah, through add/remove programs or restore point as i think sp2 sets a point before it installs

but is it the firewall or do you use another firewall (norton, mcafee, whatever)

but what is wrong? maybe its something easy to sort

I've heard a lot about problems it creates too, and as Pethegreat just found out it does create problems. I suggest to anyone else that you only install it if you honestly need to, other than that don't, or at least try to find a reformed/hacked version of it.

Re: To get or Not to get? That is the question

the real problem is other 3rd party programs that make changes to the setting of windows, like antivirus and firewalls, or any personnal tweaks to the registry or the services, cause these problems when you install SP2.
I believe the best time to update to SP2 is when you find a problem bad enought to need to reinstall windows after a fresh reformat. this way you know your windows setting are all 100% default, this is when you will experience the least problems if any when updating.
