A 64 bit processor has the ability to process instruction/coding that is 64bits in length. where as a 32 bit processor (Athlon XP, P4) can only process 32bit instruction lengths. the biggest benefit to a 64bit proc is its ability to also read 64bit long addresses, which means it can address much greater amounts of data in RAM, currently 32 procs are only configured to address at nost 16GB of data, but still your standard desktop only has room for 4GB and windows only has support for 4BG also, except server versions on Windows. 64 bit procs can potentially address up to... Ever heard of Picobytes. no well its up there, think of the entire WWW.
