Default Wireless Networking

I have a small home network at the moment, a router connecting to 3 systems using RJ45 cables, but im wondering if there is a way of creating wireless connectivity to my current router without having to fork out for a new router. Is it possible to get some kind of accsess point that will connect to a wired LAN? And if you can, anyone reccomend any products? Thanks.

You have to get a new router, but some models come with built in LAN connections.

Im not sure if they are any cheaper than wireless routers but you could just buy a wireless switch, since you allready own a router..

same thing glasius, all wireless routers are switches also and vice versa. im not sure if there out there but i believe there are some gadgets that can plug into your comp and router that are just little antenna with decoders in them, buy a pair and plug one in comp and one in router. may just be wishing to myself tho, not sure if there out there.

That I didnt know. All wireless accespoints are made as routers? Isnt that a bit stupid considering not everyone needs to route their IPs, but only create a bigger LAN?

oh, well you could get a wireless pci antenna for one of your comps, and a wireless pcmcia card for the laptop if its not wireless ready, and use that comp as a bridge/gateway to the rest of the network.

---------------------------
wireless gateway/router/accespoint all really the same thing, but they may or may not have ethernet ports, well they always be some type of port for connecting the modem.
if there no extra ports for wire connection then its usually refered to as an accespoint.
