Really annoying problem

Here's my story. In the summer I decide I want to buy a new computer. Basically my games have always been crashing to desktop since the start. I've tried just about every suggestion there is. My specs are:
P4 3.06ghz
1GB DDR RAM
Radeon 9600 128mb
Audigy
400 watt PSU

The game that crashes the most is Call of Duty. Now I have updated my drivers to Catalyst 3.10. I've updated my AGP drivers, sound, bios, windows updates just about everything updatable and still to no avail can I play without crashing. Is this problem fixable or should I just try to sell this computer and buy a new one with parts I personally buy and put in out of the box?

What version of Windows do you run? Don't you know the MS rule of thumb? Re-Install windows every 18 months because it's unstable. Back on 9X it was even less.....

i was told withthe riaden card one might not fun the 4n1 drivers dont know though.. have you gone to the call of duty site for the patch's on the game my sof used to do the same now with the patch's all is well.. man u have a good system keep that mug or sell it to a smuck. for more then what you gave for it.. hey have you ever thought about the amount of cooling. try running some good visuals and see how she reacts to it.... www.rabidhamster.org the r4 app
really intence on your system ru nthe app for a while restart go into he bios and see what the sysytem and board temp are perhaps you are sending a labor intence program and things lock doe to heat.. i had a problem with my gforc locking up cause the case was to warm. a drill a punch and a nice grid pattern you can make em look great i added a ac vent to the bottom of my case and a set of cooloing fans to the top. this filterd the air and pulled the cooler air up the board and pushed the hot air out the top. good luck man got to think of everything when it comes to this crap:naughty:

I've thought about the cooling. I haven't checked the temperature in the BIOS yet. What sounds too hot and what sounds average?

I've opened both sides of my tower and put fans near them both for a day while having the window open in 40 degree temperatures outside and the game didn't seem to work properly. But I'll test it again anyway.

My MB is in the high 70s and my CPU is in the mid to high 90s.

I opened up both sides of the tower and opened my window up. I'm freezing my ass off but anything to prevent me from having to buy another computer ;)

I started from the beginning and CTDed. So I went to my BIOS and set video card aperature or something to 128mb instead of 64. It still CTDed. Then I went to my SMARTGART tab, enabled fast writes, rebooted and started from the beginning. I completed the entire US campaign without one single problem. I don't know how long my luck will hold. If I can make it through the game without one crash then things will be looking very good.

Edit: It still crashed :furious:

dude you dont set the bios t a higher point for the agp mem amount. if your card is a 64 keep it that way now in the display prp under your controle pannel there is where you can double the amount of system mem to use for visual apps. man if your system is that cool id close the window and just leave one side open. your system is very cool temped so you are good there.
