Dictatorship Has anyone else noticed that the emperor has all the hallmarks of a dictator? he is obsessed with creating a 'perfect society' and making 'perfect super-human warriors', he makes everyone worship him, those who dont are killed by his own personal inquisition force. He kills everyone who is different to him (such as the different races, even if they want peace), he conscripts guardsmen and sends them on suicidal charges to their deaths. And he doesn't let people vote in elections to choose their leaders, he just put himself in power. Or is this just me being somewat critical? :bows: :bows: :bows: :bows: ALL HAIL THE EMPEROR???? |
Re: Dictatorship Thats true Astartre, the emperor is a dictator!!!! The emperor is a traitor, he betrayed us, now is thime for revenge... Die to the false emperor!! Die to all who believes he can escape from Chaos!! |
Re: Dictatorship Death To The False Emperor!!!!!! |
Re: Dictatorship He led mankind to the only bright way mankind could go. Because He knew that Humans had a better role to play in the galaxy, The Emperor (bless His Rightous will) led us to govern th enttire galaxy. Because he was stronger than anyone he gave birth to His Space Marines, and finally he made the sacrifice to live forever without moving on the Glodenthrone. May anyone to thinnk different shall burn in flames!!!!!! To talk more seriously, I don't think that democracy could be a viable system in the total war galaxy where it takes place. |
Re: Dictatorship Who?! What Emporor!? What Dictator?! |
Re: Dictatorship He is referring to the emporer of mankind. In the wh40k universe, the emporer sits atop a golden throne, which is essentially a giant life machine. He is the light of the Imperium, for it is his psychic abilities that (channeled throught the astromincan) enable warp travel to be possible. During the Horus Heresy, the emporer fought Horus on his flagship. It was a phenomenal battle, each warrior pushed to the limits of their abilities. Horus was eventually defested by The Emporer, although he was mortally wounded. He sits atop his golden throne in a semi-concious state. This is why the Followers of Chaos refer to him as the carrion Lord, as he is half dead. He is now no more than a symbol of the Imperium. He is revered as a god, but he can no longer fight along side the armies of the Imperium. The emporer hand picked the primarchs of all the founding legions, of whose gene seed was used to create the space marines. The Emporer fought alongside Horus in many campaigns, and would have still been the greatest warrior in the galaxy, had it not have been for the battle with Horus. |
Re: Dictatorship Emperor = Dictator = Totalitarian = Fascism Fascism is always seen as bad these days, everyone is a democracy. Emperors and Kings are neither if they are elected, if they are elected they are merely head of state... ... not entirely sure which Fantasy "The Emperor" is from... marines, chaos, talk of galaxy/space, sounds like it could be Warhammer 40K but I'm not sure. EDIT: seeing the post above me... damn I'm good; I've never played Warhammer |
Re: Dictatorship Oh i see |
Right here we're talking about The Emporor of Mankind From the 40th dark millenium. We're not talking about the emperor of hte Empire in Warhammer battle, who is by the way, elected by 12 counts of the 12 states of The Empire. In the dark W40K world, Indeed, The Emperor (blessed is His thoughts) ruled the Imperium as long as he could walk among his beloved people. Yes, he was a Dictator, but according to the whole sources we can exctract from Imperium data bases, history books, and even Eldar Informations, He was really a kind of a Super advanced man, as if like a million year earlier a man with extraordinary psychic skills and a unique strengh and will was born to help his race. He did set up government who was led by the desire of reconquesting the galaxy, so it was all made up to fulfill His military goals. Everyone knows that a democracy is not the best type of government to lead a war campaign. And, everyone in the past believed in the Emperor. Most of the world He rallied to HIs rightous cause welcomed Him as a federator of the Human nation. In this Fantasy game, that's the only (tiny) point of hope: The ancient human leader of the galaxy was a wise dictator, not a kind of a mad man (but if it interesses you, just know that during the age of the Apostasy (around 30th millenium) the head of the Imperium was a mad man who nearly made Mankind disapear) And by the way, it is my only opinion, but democracy can only be viable if the people are prepared to exerce power. If people don't really know how politic works, every government steps back to totalitarism. what would happen in the Imperium if the 13 HIgh Lords Of Terra gave the right to vote to every people in the galaxy? What a big mess to count voices...^^ |
Re: Dictatorship i think imperialist more then dictator, he was the first true human psychic, umm "the head of the Imperium was a mad man who nearly made Mankind disapear" the head of the imperium has always been the emperor, if your talkin about that Von dick who pitt the bitchs of battle (the sisterhood) & Co. againced the rest of the imperium then got a full neck smile after the girls had a talk with the corps, well he was more like a dictator. |

Re: Dictatorship my space marine TT army do not worship the emperor, they fight for the protection of mankind, not the emperor. my army's commanders hate the emperor |
Re: Dictatorship Actually, you're wrong. The High Lords of Terra run the Imperium as the Emperor is no longer able to. The Emperor is merely a psychic beacons which enables warp travel. The Imperium is therefore an Oligarchy. Even if he was able to run the Imperium it would be an Autocracy as opposed to a Dictatorship. End of lesson. |
Re: Dictatorship The emporer is regarded as a symbol know. He is too weak to command the galaxy, so The High Lords of Terra act as 'caretakers' while he is dormant, as mentioned above. He is still able to provide Warp beacons though, so he must have some grasp on the situation. |
Re: Dictatorship The ASTRINOMICAN not no beacon(s) just one big one, one that sucks the life out of thousands of psykers a day. the emperor has not phisical control only phychic so he can communicate with other psychics that have enough control over there own powers. now back to the astrinomican the beacon is created by bound psykers, binding being the soul binding that brings the psychic in to harmony with the emperor, the astrinomican drains the life of the psychic and the emperor focuses the power in to the warp to be seen by the Navis Nobility (some of the most powerfull psychics after the Eldar Phonix Lords and Tzeenchian Sorcerers) |
Re: Dictatorship Well I'm making my own new 'heresy' where instead of going evil they go good and have angels etc. because they believe the emporer is an asshole lol. but also they believe he is somewhat like a golden cow(from the bible for those of you that dont know). And now they are trying to kill him in a new heresy. More can be explained by reading my new thread. http://forums.filefront.com/table-top-hobby-discussion/245167-new-heresy.html |
Re: Dictatorship    |
Re: Dictatorship Whats so funny about that. |
Re: Dictatorship I would imagine the terms: "The Emperor is an Asshole" & "Golden Cow" :p |
Re: Dictatorship Well he sits in his golden throne and never moves so hes gotta be bigger than a real cow(yes i know its cuz hes incapacitated"yay big word") and his throne is golden and so is his armor. But he really is an asshole. Most notably the thing with Angron where instead of interfering and saving the slaves he just took Angron and left the slaves to die. |
Re: Dictatorship I kinda forgot , whos Angron again? |
Re: Dictatorship Primarch, not sure whether it was the World Eaters or the Death Guard. Pretty sure it was World Eaters, but hey. |
Re: Dictatorship Yea he is the World Eaters Primarch |

Re: Dictatorship Quote:

Re: Dictatorship The way the Emperor rules mankind is because it is the only way to stop the taint of chaos and the "superior race", the space marines are the guardians, who would rather have the imperial guard as the holy protectors? |
Re: Dictatorship I dont know if i should post it here, but why did humanity almost get wiped out, who was incharge before then?? Cos they had other stuff before, as they rediscovered las technology. Warhammer is way too complex lol, but i wana know what almost wiped us out!? |
Re: Dictatorship the emperor united the scattered clans of terra then ailled with the mechanicum to form the start of the imperium of man. nothing is really known about the yr's 2,000-15,000 all lost to time. |
Re: Dictatorship Ok, thanks for telling me :D |
Re: Dictatorship I know who Arogorn is silly , i meant Agron the Primarch but, nevermind i remeber now ( after looking through white dwarf again) Also, the Emperor is a dictator and he isn't because even if he wanted to make everyone free and retarded he couldn't he's in a wheelchair ( well, golden throne , same diff.) and the High Lords have free reign over his spoils , right? |
Re: Dictatorship pfft, angron would kick aragorns ass, even with anduril, angron has wings :p |
Re: Dictatorship Ya lol, but, what would he do with Arwen? |
Re: Dictatorship To a dark place this line of thought will carry us. Actually, he'd probably just eat her. |
Re: Dictatorship No fun first? |
Re: Dictatorship For big manly warrior types like Angron, having sex is for pussies. [/immaturehumour] |
Re: Dictatorship Have you ever considered what type of galaxy it is? Every race in the 40k universe lives in a dictatorship of sorts, the most obvious is orks(yes even TAU) Calling the Emperor is a fascist is WRONG yes he wanted a perfect soceity a utopia for mankind(all of us blacks jews arabs the lot), The Inquisition only hunts psykers ecause they are very vulnarable to daemons wich could break into the mateiral universe, they have not come to the stage of psychic powers the emperor has, the the persecution of psykers is for the good of mankind(we dont want daemons eating our souls do we?) until our evolution to a psychic race has stabilised. Ill quote an segment from the WH40K Fluff bible about the Emperor "+++The Emperor+++ The Master of Mankind, the Emperor of the Imperium, has sat upon the Golden Throne of Earth for ten millennia. His body is kept alive by means of ancient technology and sheer effort of will, for the Emperor is the greatest psyker of all, an almost bottomless repository of psychic energy. He is no ordinary man - in many respects he is a god, and is worshipped as such by untold billions. Ultimately, the Emperor has absolute power within the Imperium. The Emperor of the Imperium, Master of Mankind, Lord of Humanity and God of the human race, has ruled his vast spacial realm for longer than any living man can remember. Countless millennia ago he was born to mortal parents, growing into manhood little realising the fate awaiting him. As a youth he began to manifest strange powers, powers which intensified and multiplied as he grew older. Not least amongst these powers was that of longevity - a virtual immortality that gave him time to develop his abilities fully. For long ages he lived secretly amongst mankind, as empires grew and fell, and mankind discovered how to control and exploit the Earth. As his powers evolved he learned of the dangers beyond his own world, of the psychically attuned creatures that roamed the voids inbetween space, hungering and clawing for the life-stuff of living creatures. For countless ages he hid within humanity, nurturing his powers and waiting. At last, over ten thousand years ago he began his struggle, for he knew that humanity was on the verge of a revolution, a genetic revolution which would create a new psychically aware race, a race of which he was the first and most powerful. Without his guidance he realised the emerging race of psychics would fall prey to the dangers he had already faced, the perils of entities that fed upon psychic energy, or who used that energy for their own horrific purposes. So, the Emperor emerged from long hiding, creating the Age of the Imperium over ten millennia ago in a series of wars now remembered by none save their victor. His rule has been a long and harsh one, for there is much at stake - the life of humanity itself. The strain of his constant vigilance has taken a heavy toll upon the man that was once human, for now his body can no longer support life, and his shattered carcass remains intact only because it is held by a spirit itself sustained by the strangest of machinery - ancient artifacts constructed by the Emperor in an elder age. It is ironic that this creature, whose will extends to over a million worlds, is now unable to leave the life-giving machinery of his imperial throne, unable to so much as lift a shrivelled finger or twitch a shrunken eye. The living carcass of the Emperor is immobile, held fast within the bio-machine that sustains his spirit. The mass of this machine is contained within the imperial palace; room upon room of twisted technology, pulsing with a life and will of its own - living, breathing, reproducing and writhing like a giant, mindless organism. Held within this perversion of science lies the Emperor himself, or rather what now remains of his carcass, the seat of his omnipotent will. The Emperor understands the dangers that face his race, and has assumed the role which seems preordained for him, that of its guardian. Perhaps he is a freak, or perhaps nature created him as the protector of her metamorphosis. Either way, the Emperor is now the custodian of his race, and he alone bears the knowledge of its fate. To this end the Emperor maintains strict control over the development of humanity and contributes directly to its survival by utilising his powers. He plays a vital role in space travel within the Imperium. in order to steer a craft over great distances, a human navigator uses a mental homing signal, a sort of psychic beacon to guide him through warp space. To provide a mental signal throughout human controlled space would not be possible to any ordinary psyker. However, the Emperor is no ordinary psyker - his powers go beyond those of mortals. Even so, the strain of transmitting a continuous signal would prove far too strenuous, and he merely concentrates his powers on directing a signal created by others. These are the imperial servants known as the Adeptus Astronomica, psykers whose bodies and souls are leeched of energy. This energy is projected by the mind of the Emperor in the form of the psychic beacon known as the Astronomican. The sheer quantity of mental energy is vast, and only the mind of the Emperor is sufficient to handle so much raw power. The fate of the Adeptus Astronomica is a sad one, for their efforts soon reduce them to empty husks of bone and dry flesh. Many die every day. They are not the only psykers who are asked to make the ultimate sacrifice, for the Emperor cannot eat as men eat, or drink fluids or breathe air. His life has passed beyond a point where such things can sustain him. For the Emperor the only viable sustenance is human life-force - soul - and he has a great and insatiable appetite. Nor will just any human suffice for this purpose, for the soul-donor must be a very special person in their own right, someone with psychic powers. The Inquisition scours the Imperium in a tireless search for emergent psykers, individuals too vulnerable to be left alone. Some of these men and women will be recruited into the Adeptus Terra (especially the Adeptus Astronomica and Adeptus Astra Telepathica) but many more will serve their Emperor in a more gruesome way. Given up to the weird machinery that surrounds the Master of Mankind, their souls will be graduary leeched from their bodies to feed the Emperor's spirit. Hundreds must die in this way every day if the Emperor, the Imperium and humanity are to survive. It would be simple to think of the Emperor as an evil corruption of nature. Yet, as the Adeptus Terra teach, the sorrow and slaughter that feeds his divine corpse is a trifling price to pay for the survival of the race. Without the Emperor there would be little space travel and no protection in a hostile universe. Left uncontrolled, the emerging race of psychic humans would become the unwitting vehicle of humarnity's destruction. For there are many foil aliens which not only feed upon the life-force of other races, but which use that life-force as a means of opening portals in warp space, infiltrating populated planets via the poorly protected minds of inexperienced psykers. The master of Mankind knows that to protect his race he must survive, must live forever if necessary, or until such time as psychic humans have evolved sufficient strength to withstand the dangers they face. If thousands much endure pain and death for his sake, how considerable must be the agony of a creature whose body is all but destroyed, whose mind is encased inside a rotting shell and whose every thought is enslaved to the task of serving his race. " on a side note in the inquisitor rulebooks it say the emperor is not a man but a incarnated GOD. |
Re: Dictatorship err, what he said :D |
Re: Dictatorship Wow,:ditto: I couldn't have said it better myself , unless i said it with an indian accent lol. |
Re: Dictatorship The Emporer doesn't rule humanity, now that he's half dead, it's really the Inquisution, and other big, special people. They rule like that to keep the masses in fear of them, and they choose to rule through fear. They also have the means to do what they say they'll do. It's also to stop people turning to Chaos and xenos, but they're cooler (cept the Dark Angels) |
Re: Dictatorship Its the High Lords of Terra that rule in the Emperors place, The Inquisition only have a seat, they do not rule it. |
Re: Dictatorship what would happen if the emperor wasnt there and choas ruled there would literally be choas everywhere what kind of living is that? |
Re: Dictatorship Worse than living in the Underhive :/ |
Re: Dictatorship No Emperor, Chaos everywhere= fun. The Emperor is a drag. |
Re: Dictatorship RIGHT ON MY BROTHER!!! FOR THE DARK GODS!!! disclaimer: i am under the influence of khorne out of my own will, please do not misintend my actions for the wanting to take over the world |
Re: Dictatorship well the emperor deserves to have all that. hes the most powerful psyker there is. if he wants something he'll get it. even if he is in a wheel chair.:AzH2: did that stop xavier(xmen... probably bad example lol) from getting what he wanted? most people dont even know that the emperor isnt kept alive by the golden throne exactly, but the thousands of psykers sacrificed every day to keep it running lol. its in the 3rd(?) edition rule book (the last one) |
Re: Dictatorship 3rd anf 4th, but thats mentioned everywhere, every1 knows that |
Re: Dictatorship The Golden Throne is the machine that makes it possible for the Emperor to consume the souls of all those psykers. |
Re: Dictatorship pretty much every society is a dictatorship in the W40k universe. btw, nice fluff on the emperor, i didnt know alot of that before. but here is a question, if the emperor is so big and bad ... why doesnt he create a living reincarnation of himself, or a clone rather, to act outside of terra? and if he got so beat up from the fight with horus that he had to go into the golden throne ..... how did he get in or have time to make the throne? |
Re: Dictatorship The first inquisitors and high lords trapped his soul in his current vessel to keep him alive, that is why. And yes it is ironic. |
Re: Dictatorship At last, someone seeing sense; the Emperor is a stupid dictator and nothing more. |
