KOTOR 2 VISTA FIX(worked for me) Hello, Nobody would ever have seen me on the kotor forums, but i was looking around and i saw there is both MS32.dll file in kotor1 and kotor 2, and that is the problem, all you have to do is backup your original MS32.dll for kotor 2, and copy the one from kotor 1 in to your kotor 2 directory, then just in case ur computer has it on a different format go to the shortcut and go to properties and look at compatabilty...make sure its on Windows XP service pack 3(trust me pick this one)...and it should work, if it doesnt than sorry for getting your hopes up, and also sorry if you have already fixed the problem... |
Would you by any chance be able to explain to me why that works, and if you've managed to play the game all the way through again without problems? I only ask since I am guessing that Obsidian modified that file for some reason. |
i have absoulutly no idea why it works but it does, its goes all the way through, but ocassionaly its exits its self if you alt+tab out...yer i have been through once and i am on my second |
Nothing else mucks up if you switch it to Windows XP Service Pack 3 does it? |
Oh and the file in my KOTOR2 directory is Mss32.dll. Is that the same one? |
Hmm...I wonder if this would also work with other games like Jedi Academy and SWBF2? |
Only one way to find out. I'll give Jedi Academy a whirl |
Re: KOTOR 2 VISTA FIX(worked for me) hi. i got the mss32.dll and put it in my KOTOR 2 folder (making backups of course) and i got some working. what i mean is i can start up the game to the main title screen (new game, load game, options etc) but when i make a new character and after the screen that says "A long time ago in a galaxy...." Re: KOTOR 2 VISTA FIX(worked for me) Hi I'm Nihilus and wondering, whats xp service pack 3? I have service pack 2 xp but service pack 3????? Must be new...... |

Service pack 3? Didn't know there was one  tried it yet? |
Re: KOTOR 2 VISTA FIX(worked for me) service pack 3 is for 64x media users only, it allows for direct x 10 installation. why doesnt that driver work? because it isnt signed. microsoft is currently charging for digital signitures of drivers, no digital signiture, it trips DEP, which in some cases, cannot be turned off. is there a way around this? well using the digitally signed driver from the first KOTOR is a novel solution to a complicated problem, there is a way to register drivers manually with msconfig. if anyone knows the command line to do this, PLEASE SHARE! also. this game uses wav files. if youre a geek you know the inherent dillemma between vistas sound drivers and wav files. creative alchemy(tm) might not be a bad idea. the vista command(as in command line; accessories CMD.exe) to disable driver checks is bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS this hasnt worked for me, perhaps it will help some of you |
Re: KOTOR 2 VISTA FIX(worked for me) more options: press f8 @ boot DMI pool entry(before the windows scroll, after the motherboard spiel), then scroll down to disable signature checks. a program called "readydriver plus 1.1" that didnt work at all for me what worked with all programs on my particular system (quad core intel core 2 duo, 4 gigs of ram, 2.8 gb video vista ultimate 64x with dep hardware features) was to download both SDK and .net 3.0 and use the command line bcdedit.exe /set TESTSIGNING ON this left me with some watermarks on the edges of my screen, which are fully obfuscatable, and remarkably tiny. |
