KOTOR1: Unable to authenticate original disc within time limit

I just got KOTOR 1 from Amazon.com yesterday. I installed it, and it worked fine. However, when I went to go play it later, it came up with the following message: Unable to authenticate original disk withink time limit. I reinstalled the game, I cleaned the disc (which has no apparent damage), updated my patches, everything. You guys are my last hope before I totally freakout. Tech support isn;t available until Tuesday because of the long weekend, and LucasArts forums are less than helpful in anycase. Please help

I can only suggest that if you have 2 CD drives, put it in the top one.
I had a problem like that with KOTOR 2 where it installed, but wouldn't play unless it was in the top drive.

Odd, there is an article on this very error at Yoda's Help Desk. Did you try searching there first?

I shut down all backround programs except for virus scanners, cleaned the disc, and still nothing. And yes, it's in the top drive
