My Paid For Game Server Is Not Writing A Games.log!!!

Hey All,

I recently purchased a game server from Jolt.... Everything is fine apart from one thing!

No matter what I try and do it will not write a games.log!!! and thier support staff are useless so i decided to come somewhere where I know ill finally get a decent answer :naughty:

Below is what i currently have in both the server.cfg(base dir) and also the japlusserver.cfg(japlus dir)

BTW the server itself is a linux, and I have to use pUTTY to start/restart it ;)

server.cfg & japlusserver.cfg file:

seta g_logClientInfo "1"
seta g_log "games.log"
seta g_statLog "0"
seta g_statLogFile "stats.log"

I recently added (seta g_logClientInfo "1") as i saw this on the escapedturkey forum and i thought this would do the trick! It hasnt and it's getting very frustrating when there is a dispute in the clan or a lamer attacking members!

Please Please help....

One very frustrated Clan Leader :bows: :bows: :bows:

Just a quick update,

I have changed the server.cfg & japlusserver.cfg again! this time it looks like:

seta g_log "1"
seta g_logClientInfo "1"
seta g_log "games.log"
seta g_statLog "0"
seta g_statLogFile "stats.log"
I still don't have a games.log as I have checked via FTP! I'm being owned by a server o.O

We really can't help you, because it's probably a serverside issue. I remember when I had a Jolt-powered server, there were issues with file placement.

In my experience, the games.log file is not saved in gamedata/base or gamedata/japlus, it's stored in a seperate directory one level above gamedata. You'll just have to look around using an FTP client, you should find it eventually.

Also, it may actually be called server.log.

Re: My Paid For Game Server Is Not Writing A Games.log!!!

OK thanks mate, ill contact Jolt and see if there are any other folders that i currently am not able to view, as with smart FTP the only ones shown are like so:

Server Name(195.149.21.106)
JKA -Gamedata
Japlus

Those are the only Dir i can see using a FTP program! there is no server.log either. I have been constantly badgering Jolt about this and TBH they neither Care nor want to resolve this... Oh well Gameage here I come ;) (and there cheaper)

Cheers though

The cvar you seek is "logfile"

seta logfile "0" //no log generated
seta logfile "1" //buffered
seta logfile "2" //continuous
seta logfile "3" //append so as not to overwrite old logs

Re: My Paid For Game Server Is Not Writing A Games.log!!!

ok i have done the logfile "2" and restarted the server.

This now shows in the Initilization:

handle 1: qconsole.log

Does that mean it worked?

If so TY Amidala ;)

If you are running a mod (JA+) the log file will be in the server's mod (japlus) folder. Check the japlus folder by ftp to see if there is a "games.log" file.

If you aren't happy with the support at your server provider you are welcome to ask questions at http://forums.escapedturkey.com/. I moderate the JK2 and JA support forums there.

Re: My Paid For Game Server Is Not Writing A Games.log!!!

Will this automatically generate the games.log or do i have to put a txt file named games.log into the japlus folder?

I have put a games.log txt file in there myself, but it still hasnt added anything to it. Should I restart the server after this... sorry for being such a noob i have never dealt with linux and this is the first time ihave run a online clan and dealt with servers!

Any help is very, very appreciated... I would put the server.cfg here but i keep getting an error saying im putting a URL :O :S :S :S

Sorry

Re: My Paid For Game Server Is Not Writing A Games.log!!!

Put seta logfile "2" in both sever.cfg files. The server will create a logfile, you don't have to.

You can use a rcon program like Rcon Commander or Rcon Unlimited or Rcon SE to control your server. The All Seeing Eye and Qtracker server browsers have built-in rcon consoles. You can send the command set logfile 2 to activate log creation. Or you can send exec server.cfg after you have added the seta logfile "2" line to the server.cfg file(s).

Sys_LoadDll(jampgame) found **vmMain** at 0x421be934
Sys_LoadDll(jampgame) succeeded!

I have sent yet another support ticket to Jolt. But TBH I think im going to leave them, there support staff are inconsiderate and the servers are the laggiest there are... Gameage is next on the tryouts!!!

LOL Wish me luck.

Re: My Paid For Game Server Is Not Writing A Games.log!!!

A nice note from Jolt support staff:

you have full access and i dont really know what
your problem is.. logs are in the hidden folder
.ja on your FTP where they always go.

How can you not be happy with us when you just
dont know where to look? forums and stuff tend to
tell you things by people that guess and you'll
get the wrong information which is what sounds
like has been happening. If you want advice ask
us, not other people like yourself.

You need to learn to admin your server correctly
and it will save you a lot of hassle so when you
need info just ask us!I did the following with my FTP client:

[16:28:07] 550 Can't change directory to /ja: No such file or directory

Looks like what there telling me is BS

I am no longer going to be a jolt customer they SUCK

Re: My Paid For Game Server Is Not Writing A Games.log!!!

I remember when I had a server with Jediservers.com the logs also ended up in a hidden folder (.ja) that I didn't have access to. I had to ask them to create a symlink (like a Shortcut in Windows or an Alias in Mac OS) so I could access my logs.

At escapedturkey.com the logs end up in the base folder if running basejka or in the mod folder if running a mod. And that's under Linux, so it is possible with Linux servers.
