I'd suggest forgetting that site ever existed.

This isn't really an opinion on ripping and porting, but more of a practical thing.

You'll waste far more time and effort butchering those things into a proper form, and then rigging them to a skeleton they weren't built for, and then dealing with the myriad of bugs and deformities than you would if you simply made your own models.

Seriously, check out Polycount if you're interested in doing stuff with 3D art.

Sure you can't be a tweeny asshat there like people usually are in most gaming communities, but accept the criticisms and advice for what they are and that community can hone you into a top class artist.

Trying to get results without putting in the work just results in a mod community dying faster, because there's no one around with the skillsets to support it. This barren dump is ample proof of that, I think.

...and the fact the games are 10 years old without normal mapping support doesn't help either, most newcomers to game art will prefer to work with a modern engine.

Also that model is clearly ripped and illegal:

I would recommend using that model as a point of reference for creating your own, but not to use the model itself. It is ripped from the Clone Wars Adventures game.

I'm a little confused on something. People say ripping models is frowned upon, but some of the most popular mods for Jedi Academy have obviously ripped models in them.

What ripped models there are floating around out there are ones being passed from person to person, no ported content is hosted on sites like jk2files.com or jkhub.org.

Every ported model I came across was horribly done, like the KotOR ones for example, whoever did that must've been a total nub, if you're going to port something at least do a decent job on the weights.

And surprise surprise that there's no modding community left.

Not trying to instigate a flame war or nothin', but mods with ported models are not popular *here* and it's probably best it's left at that. Of course, if you're not talking about what I think you're talking about, make sure you check the mod's author. Some people are just that good.

Of course some people are that good. Those stolen models didn't make themselves!
