A simple shader mod

I just decided to do this today. It occurred to me that none of the face textures in JK3 have specular maps, which makes them look a little flat, so I thought maybe I'd try and add some. Not sure if I'll actually ever finish this, but I think the results are pretty nice.

The original texture, with no specular map:

The added specular map:

Looking at it now, I could probably tone it down a bit more (it's basically at 35% right now), make it a little more subtle. What do you all think?

Looks nice, but making it a bit more subtle would indeed be a good idea. :nodding:

Yeah, right now she looks like she just rubbed a pizza on her face =p

Heh, I've added specular maps and such to a few things here and there, really spices things up.
If Raven had more time, they could have squeezed so much out of this old engine.

*Just think of the other features, which they have started, but never finished, like the half-cut staff saber, etc*

I KNEW they half assed that! I just thought it was a random comment made by the developers in the .sab files.

AND yet after almost 10 years... They have yet to release the WHOLE source... I don't see why they would even care if we made addons to change things for the Hard Coded bits anymore... Didn't Ravensoft go bankrupt anyway?

Nope - Raven Software - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

They made a game called Singularity recently that was pretty cool.

Blame Activision - They're half the reason why the game was so rushed. Also see: rideable rancors, broken ship vehicle, 95% usable random map generation system (missing a link somewhere but not sure where), list goes on.

what do you mean by that? like minecraft style? or putting premade maps together in a random order like a dungeon generator?
you've made me curious.

Re: A simple shader mod

No, like Soldier of Fortune 2's...the terrain is kind-of randomly generated, and small maps (msc_bsps basically) are put inside of it. Funny thing is that it seems like Raven at times wanted to use it, especially considering that there's a few new features over SoFII (Richard Whitehouse told me that he got it to work using SoF2 assets, but I haven't; there's weather stuff that isn't in SoFII, also fog) We're getting off-topic though.
